I don't think in Christianity you talk about any animals going to heaven including dogs. Yes - it will be only humans and will be boring.
Apart from that I do not understand how you are trying to couple Atheists and other religions to this? May be one answer is people's beliefs are different and the answer to the question would come according to that belief.

Dogs cannot go to heaven. The heaven is a place for good and god fearing peoples. Athiests will never enter heaven. they are not good and religious peoples. You have asked such a question which is most despised and hated.
