why is my dog so timid?

she is now 7 months old

It can be simply their temperment not a history of abuse. You can build confidence by taking her many places so she sees many things none for which hurt her. a POSITIVE obedince class or agility class can build confidence too,,,

I had a timid dog once. She was a "fear biter". Maybe you should check to see if she was abused as a puppy. Mine was left outside on a tie-out, beaten, and ignored.
