When exaclty did the ACLU become the enemy? When did they stop looking out for citizens of the United States and become a World watcher? I went to college with someone who went on to work there(not for the money but they were bleeding hearts back then), but they had good intentions of helping people who had no help, etc. Now all you hear about the ACLU is that they are doing whatever they can to hurt this nation. What happened and when did they go off the deep end or have we changed our outlooks on the way the country should be and they are still the same as always?

DJmantx...How is going after the Boy Scouts and supporting NAMBLA protecting civil liberties?

The ACLU protects the rights and civil liberties of some while it infringes on the rights and civil liberties of a lot ot others. I see them making huge efforts to protect and defend the lowest common element in this country while waging a war on Christians. When was the last time they took up a conservative cause?

I wish I could come up with one nice thing to say about the ACLU, but I can't.

Happened around the same time as when modern day liberals as a whole, started somewhat in the 80's, but solidified in the 90's, and has become the leading movement for the left wing during the Bush administration.

Just look at the difference between JFK and what he stood for and what Teddy 'hic' Kennedy stands for today. It is absolutely amazing the transformation the Democratic party has gone under over just the last 10 years. Ever since they lost control of Congress in 1994, they have simply lost their minds.

They will either correct their trend or they will perish as a party... either option will be good for America.

Because the injustices being caused are by groups like the Boy Scouts, who try to ban members based on religion, or lack thereof. The only people who still get publicly descriminated anymore are the fringe of society, who still need protected. They do go too far though by trying to ban 10 commandments. They should work for unconditional freedom. Plus it is conservatives putting the liberal ACLU in a bad light. Sure they protect Nazi's but they protect school children as well. The first amendment was meant to protect everyone. "I dissagree with what you have to say, but will defend to my death your right to say it."

It has become clear that they are trying to use the courts to create laws by interpretation rather than legislation. They find themselves defending child molesters, which is tarnishing their image with the average Americans who find the ACLU's position disgusting. I'd like to see a list of who contributes to the ACLU. If any corporations support them, I would boycott their products and services.

You would be singing a different tune if you were thrown into jail for exercising your constitutional rights. Have you seen the hourly rates of an average attorney?

Everyone deserves a defense, regardless. Your screed against the ACLU does not obfuscate this fact.

This is not a fascist country, yet.

We have many laws on our books to ensure that the rights of each citizen of the United States are protected. I think they,(the ACLU), are lost and need a cause behind which to rally. This can only lead them to stick their noses where they don't belong.

I think you have changed the ACLU does not take the popular side of an arguement they believe in civil liberties for all citizens of the United States...Maybe its just me but I'm finding more and more Americans are not interested in civil liberties or freedoms but want everyone to believe the same things and that we should all be free to believe what is popular...freedom was never about popularity take burning the flag for instance its an ugly thing to do but should it be illegal? didnt the people who died for freedom die for all opinions and freedom for all people regardless of what you believe? If a person believes in free speech he isnt saying it should be free to say things we all agree with its freedom to express opinions that are unpopular anti government anti religion wahtever you think have an opinion and share it. I wish it were still true of Americans that once said I may not agree with what you are saying but I will die for your right to say it.

well i don't know, but i hate them. they don't think schools should have random drug testing and i disagree. i think its a great idea. most parents don't know their kids are doing drugs, this way they could find out and do something about it. it would also help keep drugs out of the schools. but the ACLU doesn't want anything that protects children. what good are they anyway?

Yes, the ACLU has become a watchdog agency instead of their original intended purpose. An agency that has outgrown its britches for sure.

I get the ACLU email newsletter and I don't agree with everything they do, but I support their right to do it.

Which is what they are all about in the first place.
