A PR officer's job involves media relations, customer relations, and other promotional jobs like advertising and marketing. Basically, you will write press releases, plan for the company's promotion of its products and services, and market your company's brand to consumers. I guess, for countries such as India, there are only a few schools for public relations. Like in my country, a PR position qualifies those who are graduates of mass communication and journalism courses. This is because public relations is one area of specialty under mass communication. Basically, if you are good in communicating with others, knows how to write news, and have dealt with the media before, then you could qualify being a publicist. With regards to salary, it really depends on your country as well as on the company you will be working.
