I live in Medway, and God! it's chavy. Anybody here would have ideas for me about nice places to go in the area and nice -normal- people to talk with? I don't like swearing and getting pissed, so i am rather restricted here...

believe me DO NOT go to bluewater!!!! it is chav city!!!! seriously it is the home of chavs thats why they got the ban on hoodies!!! there is an outlet in chatham that is good,
lungingstone castle, shoreham woods, lungingstone roman villa, you could go on the train to hastings, i love thorpe park but you couldn't really go there everyday!!, pratically every town you go to has a high street where you can go shopping, you can go swimming, the enchanted forrest is good, rochester, canterbury, diggerland, the list goes on

Rochester Castle and Cathedral are both worth a look,
Bluwater shopping centre (bus 701 from the Pentagon)
There's a theatre on the high street of Chatham. The Historic Dockyard (not actually been in there).
Canterbury is excellent - Cathedral is definitely a must see, and is also an excellent city for shopping/restaurants/coffee bars (it's about 45 mins on the train) London is also about 45mins on the train. Whitstable, Herne Bay and Thanet are only about an hour off.
Battle and Hastings are a fair ways off, but good for a day out. But sadly their is very little culture in Chatham and Gillingham, and Rochster, although much better, is not big enough to hold interest for ever.

I agree with you about the chavvy bit. And you can't walk down the street without seeing warring husbands and wives. I live just down the river on a boat opposite Gillingham. Lots of really nice down to earth people living on boats here - you wouldn't catch me living in a house in Medway!!
As for places to go. Hmm.. There's bluewater for shopping as someone else mentioned. Capstone park just outside Chatham is a nice place to go for a walk. You could pop down to Whitstable. Or you could pop down here and meet some nice people.

I lived in Canterbury for about 4 years and that's a nice place. Can be chavvy in places like all cities but it's small and it's nice place. Also Whitstable is good.

Leeds Castle makes a good day out, if the weather's nice.

If you go onto the Kent tourist board, http://www.kenttourism.co.uk/ they have a section about attractions on there.

I hear that dogging is very popular in your neck of the woods.
