Even if you enjoy doing good, you're doing it so you can get the feeling of joy. If you didn't get that feeling then you probably wouldn't attempt to go out of your way to do good for some total stranger or yourself for that matter. We always expect to get something out of it be it a feeling or something material.

Most of the people doing true goodness in this life do it because they have huge compassion for others and their suffering..or perhaps they have been relieved of some suffering at some point and they want to give a little back..like a foster kid that grows up to foster other kids...or a battered wife that was given help and ends up being a social worker. There are missionaries out there who love these people...I believe it is because of persons like these still in existance that God continues to contend with us. Yes, it feels good to give and do for others...but if you are glorifying God and doing what you are doing with a sincere heart, a passion..a drive to make some difference to someone somewhere...which I believe is the true modivation then that is its own reward. Not all people practice altruism..but most also I beleive had the propensity to nurture, heal and help as God made them to begin with. Indifference to suffring..that is the absence of God in a human soul. Love in Christ, ~J~ <><

That is both moral and ethical, but hardly the way to run a religion. If everybody just went around being good and not having an original and unescapable sin and an inevitalble eternity of suffering if they are not saved you would soon go broke and your church would be auctioned off by the receivers, Tammy would not be able to afford make up and TV evangelicals would not be able to tell the president what to do.

Your right i dont think that it should matter what the majority or minoroty wants. each person has to make their own choice. I was never physicaly punished, but i remember getting detention in primary school for not saying the prayers with the class which were not even part of my religion. And i got scolding from my parents if i didnt want to ray when i was younger but personaly i feel it made me want to pray even less. Like prayer was a burden or chore. then i had to go through a whole process again to realise the true value of prayer. i dont think anyone should be forced!!!

You got things a bit wrong there. People don't do good to come to heaven. They do good because then they'll make themselves look good. Which is just as bad I must admit.

As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.

Eat the mangoes, don't count the trees.
if someone does a good act, no matter whatever his intension, that act is going to benefit someone. so why are you bothered about him wanting to look good or whatever he wants. take the good act...say thanks and get lost. whatever happened to appreciating a good act for what it is?? stop judging people pls.
