The hydrogen technology is already out there. At first, buses were the first to get hydrogen fuel cells, then as the technology improved and the engine became smaller, cars were next.
As for the next five years, maybe the next ten.
When gasoline becomes too expensive, people resort to alternative and cheaper modes of travelling, and the technology improves.

The technology is definitely there, just that the only drawback is that it is still not so convinient to use. Even with the gas prices we are seeing, it is still cheaper to use gasoline than to use hydrogen fuel cells. A lot of car companies already have hydrogen cars that are not yet available to the general public. As far as whether or not we will be widely using it within five years... I doubt it. Oil companies are hindering it's progress... but then again, that's just me.

Yes, there is enough technology present now to do so. But,still I dont think it will be possible 4 us to do so in just 5 yrs.May be we will need over 10-15yrs.Hydroden car technology is quite good but it also has its problems for eg:its storage,non-portability,etc.
Hydrogen element makes up 97% of all the elements amd can be used as a fuel widely all over the world.

i say no we will not be running cars off of hydrogen. the reason why is hydrogen take a lot of energy to make it is not a free element it needs to be stripped from other molecules. yes there are few cars that do run off of hydrogen. but none that i know of for sale to the public.

i would hope we would, but i doubt it. America is controlled by oil tycoons. as long as they're in power, there will be no real progress towards hydrogen. i believe the technology is there though.
