My reason for thinking this is because it is obviously painful, and is also risky.. And most all of the time is some how connected to loss of someone or something in ones life... I know their are exceptions, but for the most part, it seems connected to a sinse of loss... So in a way, they in turn inflict pain on them selves.... And that is sad..

Yes I think so. It is changing your original form. Some people like to do that. So yeah putting die into your skin would be a form of that and so would cutting, piercing or any body modification. I guess it all depends on how far people go with it as to how much it is. If it is one small thing then it might not really be, but if it is tons of a thing then it would be. What do you think? A small tatoo or one piercing not much, but the whole body gets extreme when it starts interfering with your looks it is getting bad. When people look at the modification before the person i would say that is mutilation. I think they like the shock factor, but it is not them people are looking at just their stuff. Is that truly original?

No, I don't think so. It all depends on if your religious or not really cause the bible says something about not marking your body(not just with tattoos) so most religous peeps are gonna see it that way probably. I personally think its more of an art, or a way to tell a story, maybe events in your life that have happened....can't really lose those like you lose pictures.

Tattooing is a form of expression, not everyone gets them to remind them of a bad time in there life, some get things that make them happy too. I have 8 and I got things that I like, like a unicorn, butterfly, rose, and etc.,for me I wanted to get things that made me happy and that I could live with for the rest of my life. So that when I'm a 65 year old grandma,I won't regret it.

I guess some may feel that way. For many it is a form of body adornment and has been practiced for centuries. It's not for everyone. Personally, I worry that I might change my mind! Have a great day.

No, I wouldn't say so. I think self mutilation is something that is done to intentionally cause bodily harm to yourself. Getting a tattoo is not harming yourself.

Yes. Self mutilation in the name of beauty. So is ear peircing and plastic surgery.

sure, but the same could be said for ear piercing, or plastic surgery. one could even make the case that makeup is a form of a mask to disguise the real you.

or you could look on it in a positive light, and admit that sometimes they look kinda cool.

I suppose you could call it that. I think this(http://www.bmezine.com/scar/bme-scar.html) is more of self mutilation though. because tattoos are interesting to look at... but scarification can be revolting to some people.

I suppose it could be looked at as self mutilation, due to the fact that you are covering your skin and hiding yourself.

IT is if you do it out of vanity Its like a piece of jewelry if you wear it because you think it makes you look cool to other people and you have no meaning to Yourself you are being vain.
