What will happen to us when the oil crisis finally happens? How will we survive? Do you think that we are taking enough measure and technology is innovating fast enough?

the end of oil may come sooner than that. one international expert, the highly respected Ali Samsan Bakhtiari, says that we have already reached "Peak Oil", the point at which oil production is at maximun (see the article below). Oil production can only decline from now, if he's right.

While the scenario doesn't have to be dire, it is very worrying, becuase things will have to change. Why do you think there are so many countries today, including Iran, who want to develop nuclear power? Why do you think China is trying to buy up whatever oil it can, wherever.

We will need to develop alternatives, and fairly quickly, but they won't replace petroleum products entirely. You wouldn't believe how much we use petroleum for! Even to produce alternate forms of energy, petroleum will probably be needed. But we can use gas and (sadly) nuclear power to help. In places like Australia, where I live, we MUST develop solar, wind and tidal energy. Sadly, the government is retrograde, suggesting coal and nuclear instead.

You can help change things. Start urging your politicians to support new, green technologies. If you drive, stop. Use public transport, cycling, walking. I've done it for five years now. Use less energy in your home (less heat in winter, little or no A/C in summer); I've abandoned A/C entirely and use only a space heater in one room in the coldest part of winter. If everybody does things like this, we can cut energy consumption dramatically, BEFORE the oil problem gets out of hand. That would give us a chance to make a smooth transition.

Together we can do it!!! :)

If we completely run aout of oil, people will find a way to get by without it.
We have ways of getting energy that don't use oil, it's just that they are not economically viable. If we had no oil we would be forced to use them and just pay higher prices. Eventually people would find more efficient ways of doing and the prices would fall.

Well, the french are planning to build the first nuclear fusion power plant in around the 1930's. This enery is like the sun's energy, and it is renewable.
Also, plans have been accepted in England to build more nucluear power plants just this week.
Along with this, you can probably expect to see more tidal energy structures, and wind structures.

The technology is there it's just people who aren't allowing it to happen. Change is hard, and no body wants to. That is the problem.

People have lived on earth for 10,000+ years; we've only had oil for about 120. We'll find our way.
