Turn off the TV and the rap music (or whatever you listen to) and put on a boring classical station on the radio. Keep the environment calm. Pat her on the back for a few minutes to settle her down, talk to her in a soothing quiet voice while your doing this. Set the tone for calmness prior to bedtime. I hope you didn't let her drink soda (had caffiene in it) or eat too much sugary junk food, because that will rev her up. Next time you babysit, get the environment calm first, let her take a bath, get her in her jammies, put some lavendar baby lotion on her arms & legs (lavendar is used in aromatherapy to calm and settle). Read her a quiet calm bedtime story, turn on the restful music and spend a few minutes whispering goodnights to her while patting her on the back, then say goodnight. Keep the TV off or low till you know she's asleep. I've seem some people sitting on the couch in the other room yelling at the kids while they are talking on the phone & have the tv on loud and expect the kids to go to sleep. A little time invested giving them your full attention will pay off, then you can go back to the phone or tv.

make her more chirpy - tell we play a small game and then we all go to sleep. Play some game for 15 - 20 mins and see if you can manage - trust she is a lovely little girl.

why don't you just go to bed with her? turn off the lights, keep a nightlight on if you have to, and make up some silly stories. then after a bit tell her it's time to go to sleep and that you have to be quiet now. she'll eventually fall asleep.

put her in a dark room with a bed and close the door, she'll probably start crying because she wants to play... let her cry herself to sleep. put your headphones on and listen to some music. when she finally stops crying check in on her, she'll probably be sleeping. it sounds horrible but a little crying never hurt anyone.

try this.
Chamomile tea
with some milk and honey in it
Make everything dark
Put on a movie she likes
or read her a story
chamomile works really good at
making people sleepy
Make sure she is not allergic to ragweed though.

i suggest one of two things, first try picking her up and kinda swing her back and forth in your arms(think of what monica did to rachels baby in friends) or second put her in her bed and just let her cry till she gets so tired that she falls asleep its mean but trust me it works.
