Can I have $500 too? Please tell me you are kidding. Where's the police report? You need to call your insurance company and let them handle it, that's why you pay them. If you are at fault they will pay, if the other driver is at fault they will also take care of it. Why on earth would you give them $500?

What's to stop him from taking the 500 dollars from you and till reporting the matter to the cops later?
And another thing, sometime ago, there was this scam that a group of people were running in Mumbai (Bombay). You passed someone afoot in your car, and then you'd a bump in the rear. You stop your car and one person comes running and informs you that you have run over someones foot. You offer to take the person to the hospital, and two people get into the car. They then suggest that you give them some money so that the persons could be taken to his/her own personal physician, and you feel relieved that you are being let off lightly. This guy, was in slippers and he was oozing what i though was blood from his toes. It was probably a blood colored dye.
I got taken in for 300 bucks once, but three months later I saw them working the same scam with someone I knew. A couple of months later they tried this again with me, and I agreed to take them to the hospital, but after a visit to the cops. On hearing about the police station, they just vamoosed like their tails were on fire.
I don't know if this is the case with you or not. Anyway, all the best!

Were there any witnesses? Tell buddy that you need to to report this accident to the police and your insurance so that the both of you can figure this out properly in court.
Please don't give him $500 just like that. I think he'd trying to take advantage of you by asking you for money.

The minute you give him any money you are admitting fault for the accident. Report it to your insurance company and let them sort it out. You did get a police report, didn't you?

Don't give the guy any money before you consult your insurance company. My understanding, and this could be outdated, is that since he is uninsured, he is automatically at fault. I'm not trying to steer you wrong, in fact, I think you ought to talk to an agent before you do anything, but that's my recollection.
Good Luck.

If the accident was that severe, it s hould've been reported to the police.
I wouldn't trust a man who asked you to give him 500 dollars for hitting him, especially if he's uninsured. Let your insurance company deal with the claim. That's what you paid them for.

Call the police and get this person a ticket. He should have insurance and the fact that he don't questions his credibility. The police will decide who is at fault. If it is not you I hope you have uninsured motorist protection to cover your damages. I posted a cool article that might be helpful with uninsured motorist.

Don't do it. Too many possibilities--he's really insured, but doesn't want to report it to his company, so would rather take the money.
He's insured, he'll take your money, then report the accident as your fault and sue you.
You should have "uninsured motorist" coverage on your policy.
