Yeah it stinks, but welcome to the real world of religious hypocrisy - The Catholic church has never really changed in that attitude over the centuries, so I guess at least it's consistant.

If the marriage was annulled, it means that legally it didn't take place.

As for the Catholic church, the stance on divorce doesn't necessarily excommunicate members who try to live up to its faith after being lost for a time. Further, there are members of the Catholic church who feel very strongly that if the marriage isn't honored, it never really was a true union. This is especially true in cases of abuse. God didn't want us to hurt others, especially the person we've vowed to love, honor, and cherish.

You also have to understand that Hollywood marriages aren't always about love. I'm impressed they lasted 10 years. I've seen enough interviews with Tom Cruise I don't understand why anyone would marry him. He's controlling, domineering, and makes judgements about things he just doesn't understand. Many marriages in Hollywood are simply publicity acts designed to boost a stagnant career. I admire any marriage with lasting power, but especially there.

You can do whatever you want in a Catholic church as long as you have money.

Since tribunal records are secret we do not know why she got an annulment, and it is unwise and uncharitable to speculate.
