There is no cost to attend the academy unless you dis-enroll by choice, in which case you pay them back for your education (hell if I know how much & I've never heard of this actually happening). It in fact cost the government about $135,000 per cadet per year according to the last numbers I heard. You do in fact get paid, as you are technically on active duty in the military at the time.

You will commission as a 2nd Lieutenant upon graduation & after a month or two leave will be assigned to training for you job. In most fields you will be required to serve 5 years, with a few requiring six, navigators are 8 & pilots 10 (flight slots start counting from AFTER you get your wings).

1500 cadets are accepted per year with an average of 900 graduating. Most drop over the initial summer, and some later for academics mostly. However, if you graduate with a 2.0 you can get your choice of jobs over just about every ROTC cadet in the nation regardless of their GPA.

If you are intent on going, check out an organization called Civil Air Patrol, speak to an Academy recruiting officer, & start getting your resume built up as soon as you can. For that 1500 that are accepted 20,000+ applied. If you want advice or contacts to get you started, please feel free to email/msg me via my profile, I have a great deal of experience with getting folks in to each of the service academies (via Civil Air Patrol).

My sister graduated from the academy last year. There is no cost to attend the Academy. I'm sorry that I can't answer your question on enrollment numbers. You are required to serve I think six years in the service after you graduate and the job you're given doesn't have much to do with your degree. Also, you get a great education but it is not at all a typical college experience. The rules on everything are extremely strict.

My little brother got accepted so their standards can't be too high.

It is free to go to the Air Force Academy but it is free to go to any school in the country if you get an ROTC Scholarship and you will owe less time to the military with ROTC.

My b/f just went in. It doesn't cost anything, infact they pay you. But it is super hard to get in. He already has 5 blisters on each foot and has only been there 2 weeks.
