Both are states of being unconscious. The difference is how that state was entered. Typically if you consider yourself "unconscious" it was caused by an injury or medicine or something of the like.

The best way to describe it would be that the unconscious mind is on hold, while the sleeping mind is partially active, with some parts of the brain resting while other parts doing their dirty work.

When you go to sleep, you choose to go to sleep to rest. When unconscious, your body is telling you something is WRONG, you need fixing.

You don't respond to stimuli, you can't be woken up or hear sounds and feel touch. Perhaps no dreaming as well.

you fall asleep on purpose, I dont think you have a choice when you lose conscienceness and when you're asleep you have dreems
