If a person's PTT (Prothrobin Time) is 55 seconds means, the blood of that person clots within 55 seconds, when it is exposed to air. By using this value INR values are calculated and accordingly the anticoagulant, heparin or Asitrome (syntrome) is given to that person to increase his PTT level of his blood.

heparin is used each time that someone is hooked to an IV or to flush out the IV tubes and also for catiders too it can be used as a blood thinner too but has to be monitored very very cloce! as for side affects there should not be any if used right.
