How about an iBook? Can I run windows on my iBook? I am a master's student, so will that be a good option?
How about Dell? Will also need wireless technology.

I extremely recommend Mac computers if your a student. I am one myself, and honestly I would feel lost without my computer. Yes you can run windows, and its affordable, and very nice looking:) I have a powerbook, and my sister has the ibook, its $999, she loves it. Mac's are a great option, they don't freeze, no viruses, its great:)
whatever you do, don't buy a dell..do your research if you indeed proceed to get a dell, because everyone I know that has a dell, always complain how it always shuts off, and the battery life sucks, keeps freezing, they all want a mac..so..good luck and hope school is going great:)

Sony are fairly reliable, they also do the most portable computers.

I would suggest not wasting to much money on a laptop if you are just browsing the internet over wireless and typing up documents.

I have two machines

an Alienware 7700 which weighs a ton and cost an arm and a leg

dell inspiron which cost 399 quid, has wireless and is light (because there is nothing in it) it runs cool too so you can actually put it on your lap. Don't buy office with your machine you can get a better deal because you are a student, talk to your uni about microsoft office student and teacher edition.

Mac's well let's just say I am not a Mac person. You will encounter compatability issues at some point. You can run windows on an Ibook but it will be slow and you have to buy the software.

Buy a cheap Dell and Drink the other 500 quid.

The processor % is extra significant. a number of the better speeds now are 3.3MHz, so neither of those are quite horribly quick, if that is what you're going for. yet once you've a lot less that 3 GB of RAM, you're literally not doing too warm, both. notwithstanding, inspite of all that, i presumed I ought to inform you that I surely have had problems with Dell hardware and themes with Toshiba software. My next computer should be a Sony or an HP/Compaq.

Woolworths have a new lap top in the larger stores. .
I noticed it in Lincolnshire last week end. I think it was under 400 sterling new. The web can also help you by using Google to search and browsing all the offers. Do not buy one second hand without some warranty or you will buy trouble unless you are IT expert. Argos and others have a Summer Sale going on.
some Councils sell laptops with short warranty. Email to their Education Depts.,

laptop computers can be a rather tricky buy at times, I would suggest that you look out for the cheapest and yet latest desktop on the market,

the best way to do this is on what they call warehouse sale markets some of them are online.

these warehouse owners have a service where they sell laptop computers to normal customers like you and me, however with very reduced prices due to the fact that they do not have as much costs as normal shops do, such as rent and a employees etc. as you know most online shops have rather competitive prices sometimes cutting the laptop price to a half.

one such website for laptop computers is :

Dell are quite good when it comes to laptops. I would go for an inspiron which has built in wireless technology. prices are around the 549.00 mark for a really decent one.

Go with Dell.

I've had them for years. Fast. Stable. Never had a problem with them.

And you'll easily get one for £900.

Forget the iBook. Too expensive for what you get.

Go see the IT department at your school/college/uni, they often "know someone who knows someone" and may be able to advise you or sell you one. The IT bloke at my old uni had a great sideline in this.
