That phrase is part of our school's mission statement. To people in our community it means that a person is not static once they leave school. They continue to read and learn. You may not actually use the algebra you learned in high school, but you use the reasoning skills from that class to handle things in daily life (check book, budget). It means that you continue to increase you vocabulary while reading the newspaper or business publications. It means that you keep your eyes and ears open to the world around you and use the skills from school to process all of the incoming information from books, newspapers, TV, and radio.

to me it's learning something new everyday, however trivial so the day isn't a total waste.
