I'm not an atheist but I am spiritual and it appears that many atheists have studied and carefully researched the Bible and base their beliefs on the many inconsistencies, fallacies, and contradictions found in the Bible. By the way, a lot of atheists actually know more about the Bible than your average preacher. Before you do anything, self-discover and use your feelings then do what is truly in your heart. Not what someone tells you to do. Belief in a Supreme Being has existed since the beginning of time.

Circumcision is required. ;-)
Serious answer: Examine your beliefs. Many people believe that there is a God ie: a power or force who created the universe and it's contents, but are not satisfied by any of the religions which act as pathways to that God. These people are AGNOSTICS.
On the other hand, there are millions of people who believe that there is a non-magical explanation for existence. One book which does a good job of a no-B.S. explanation of how life has evolved from nothing to humanity is called "The Blind Watchmaker" by Richard Dawkins.
Bottom line, if you believe that you are an atheist, then you are.

I would be considered an atheist by most because I believe the weight of evidence falls squarely on the side of the non-existence of a supreme being as most religious-minded folk conceive of one. I became an atheist simply by acknowledging that a belief in any god has no place or purpose in my life. No time spent in any bar was ever necessary.

By seeing the hypocricy of the religions, by seeing un-scientific explanation and by seeing the hollowness of the claims, any sane and intelligent person may become Atheist
Atheist has a better knowledge about relgion
If your religion does not have sufficient intelligent dogmas to digest, be ready for the atheists to blow it out

You dont 'become' one surely! At least not consciously. You just know you are not interested and dont believe in everything that makes you not an athiest!

I'm only an atheist when I'm being serious. I like to pretend karma is real.

An athiest doesn't believe there is a God, Heaven, Hell or even the Devil. You don't become one, you either are, or not.

You have to say the sinner's prayer, "dear nothing, I promise to do whatever I do unless I don't in which case you are free to do whatever you do, which is nothing. We beseach you in the name of ...that guy who's name we use for beseaching". After you say this, send me 10% of your gross from now on.
There ya go.
