Because certain drugs act as neurotransmitter mimics. In a nutshell they're able to interact with certain chemical receptors in the brain to trick the brain into thinking it's receiving input that doesn't really exist.

Because if the drugs weren't fun then no one would take them. Don't you think that through history they have tried all different things and then picked certain plants/drugs for a reason.
