I am Pentecostal and I have heard that some baptist do. But with all the gifts of God there is a proper time and place to use them. The reason most religions ban it or say it is from the devil is because people like to be seen and make a big deal about it. Hey look at me. I can prophecy and speak in tongues. This is not the way God intended the gifts he gives us to be used

You mean modern day or anytime? It is in the Bible in Acts and in some spiritual gifts lists. I've also heard about it, but not necessarily in the same way that Pentecostals view speaking in tongues. I.E. Missionaries going into a country where they don't know the language but still being able to communicate with the people there. It's an issue on interpretting what it means to speak in tongues. Pentecostals do place a lot more importance on it than other denominations do though

Yes.
Some (or many) Charismatics (in different denominations outside the Pentecostal church) speak in tongues as well.
E.g., there are Charismatic Methodists, Presbyterians, Catholics etc...
Cordially,
John

Many charismatic churches do this as well. The main difference in the theology, is that Pentecostals say that tongues are THE evidence that one is Spirit filled. Charismatics say that it is AN evidence that one is Spirit filled.

When I cried out to the Lord before my suicide and He raised me from the dead, I have started speaking in tongues, and I only foud out about it reading the Bible years later, not knowing deeply what it was.
Now I am a born again christian with a bit more knowledge from the Holy Spirit and know that that was a GIft from the Holy Spirit to communicate with the Lord at the time (there were no christian around me to help me ... BUT GOD)

Yes. It is of course common in Bible times, throughout the book of Acts and instructions are given for it in 1 Corinthians.
In modern times, speaking in tongues has happened in several denominations during the Charasmatic Renewal, and such phenomena still continues today.

Yes, in the Catholic religion, people who are possessed by an evil spirit are said to "talk in tongues."

Yes, in the mormon church we recieve it, but it is so others can understand you who don't speak your language rather than strange words that no one understands and doesn't edify anyone.
