It's normal to try them, but you really need to choose to stop. It's a bad habit. NOTHING good comes of smoking. It's expensive, unhealthy and it smells bad. If you don't quit now, it will just be harder later, and you'll wonder why you ever started -- ask any old person who smokes.

If you have to ask if you are too young, you probably are.

I am assuming you do not have an income with which to buy cigarettes, so the best thing to do is tell your parents so they can stop leaving their cigarettes around for easy access.

If you need something more than that, it might help to volunteer in a hospital's cancer ward and see the effects of lung cancer (which non-smokers can also get, btw).

If you have friends who smoke (or whatever led you to trying it), rethink those friendships and the long-term effects of going down that path.

I've never heard of someone getting addicted from one cigarette, but I imagine it's possible. Stop it now before it gets worse.

Edited to add: Talk to your parents about the effects their smoking has on you, as well. This may be a good time for everyone who smokes in the household to stop smoking. http://www.entnet.org/ent-press/visualENT/Smoke.cfm

I'm watching my mother in law suffer severely over the last month, in ICU, hooked up to a ventilator to breathe because she has been smoking for the last 40 years. smoking one cigarrette, once, should be a pretty easy habit to break since there really isn't a habit and you aren't addicted to the nicotine yet. Don't start. It's really not a pretty sight to see someone you love with tubes coming out of their mouth, and tubes up their nose, just so they can breathe.

I had my first cigg. when I was 14 too but decided to be really cool when I was 16 and bought a pack. That was 39 tears ago. Since then I have spent over $100k on more packs. I am probably going to shortin my life by about 30-40yrs. You had better take heed my young friend and not ever do it again! It is the biggest mistake in my whole life. STOP NOW___ DON'T BE STUPID!

i had my first ciggy when i was 12 and i thought it was cool hanging round the older kids then i got over it. then bout 3 or 4 years later i started again and have been smoking ever since i am now 20 and my partner (22) and i both smoke and are both thinking of quitting it is the biggest waste of money and you will relise this when you get older. the problem is my partner is findng it really hard to quite. its up to you what you do but if you continue you will waste your money, try putting the money aside thatyou would spend on a pack a ciggy's and you will find you can almost buy a car when your old enough to drive it.

Personally I don't think it's ever good to smoke - my grandma died of lung cancer before I was even born because she smoked. You should probably tell your parents cuz well they'll probably find out anyways. Try some of that gum like Nicorrette or you might just have to suffer withdrawal until you get over the addiction. DON"T SMOKE ANOTHER 1! Your parents will probably know what to do. Good luck!

way too young - trust me i do smoke. and if u keep going and really get addicted, then it will be hell for u. just think, u will have cravings like hell and at your age, there won't be a place for u to legally buy them or to smoke them without getting in trouble. if i had to go through a whole day of school w/out a cigg. i think i would die. at least wait till u are legal age to try them again - who knows, they just might be gross the next time around.

Just walk away from them right now. Cigarettes ruined my dad's health. Today he has high blood pressure and has had 2 strokes. The last one was pretty major and he has to wear a brace now and walk with a cane, at 64. He learned the effects of cigarettes when it was too late. Now instead of doing his favorite summer activities, he has to stay at home and has to have someone watching him most of the time. Don't ruin your life with something stupid like cigarettes. It's not worth it.

WELL FIRST OFF IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN, WELL YOU KNOW NASTY AS HELL, COUGH, COUGH, COUGH. BUT YOU ARE NOT ADDICTED AFTER ONLY ONE OR ONE NIGHT OF SMOKING.
YES YOU ARE WAY TO OUNG TO START SMOKING NOW. THE LEGAL AGE IS 18 AND THAT IS TOO YOUNG TOO.
I QUIT 6 YEARS AGO ON THE MORNING OF THE DAY I WENT IN FOR 6 WAY BY-PASS SURGERY ON MY HEART. DIRECTLY ATTRRIBUTABLE TO MY EXCESSIVE 2 PAK A DAY HABIT. I WENT FROM TWO PACKS A DAY TO NONE. I DO STILL CRAVE THEM EVEN AFTER 6 YEARS BUT MY WILL POWER IS STRONGER.
