I'm surprised you're having a hard time getting a job.. Near me, the companies are advertising all the time for caregiver help. Maybe you need to move to an area with a higher % of elderly folks?

I am not sure how it differs from each state but in Texas you must complete the "CNA" course. This consists of 40 hours of classroom studies from a licensed nurse and then be tested for certification. You would then be considered a "Certified Nursing Assistant". After you have received 16 Hours of the initial training you can work on the floor and receive minimum wage from a long-term care facility. Once you have tested and are certified as a "CNA" you should get a raise in your hourly wage. I am not exactly sure how many hours of actual "clinical" (which is hands on care) experience is required for certification. But the best wage you can make as a "CNA" is through the nursing agencies near you. Best of luck in your career choice. You could also check with your local agency for aging or senior citizen's center for someone that needs care in their home for your experience. Many families are looking for someone to care for their elderly parents in the home setting. Again, good luck!

i am in this line of work, and i started off volunteering. i thought exactly what you thought...no one will hire me without experience. but they did because they saw my willingness in working for them without pay.

good, you know the population you want to work for...seniors. you can try for work in hospitals in the extended care unit (ECU) or the transitional care unit (TCU), or palliative care unit (PCU). check out seniors homes, nursing homes, care homes.

if you're thinking of an MOA position check out hospitals, or any place that is medical in nature. you will need alot of patience and persistence.
