I believe that, in order to keep the religion in the powerful position it is in, and to keep the 'rulers' esconced in power, they need to have their faithful believing that they are in the right, and that all challenges to their authority are wrong. And there are a lot of challenges to their authority and their, literally, as they see it, 'God-given' righteousness.

The books you mentioned were source books used by the different authors in the Bible, usually describing historical things. Just because they are referenced in the Bible doesn't mean they were the word of God, only that the author pulled something from there. And before you say that means the Bible isn't from God b/c it was sourced, think about this. Scripture is inspired by God, but penned by man. So the author references a battle that someone else has written about, and then describes how God was involved or what God wants us to learn from something that went on there. As far as I know none of these still exist. Sorry, its late and I'm not exactly an expert, but I hope that made some sense.
The Apocrypha are some books that first appeared in a Greek translation of the Jewish scripture (Christian Old Testament), but weren't included before that. As far as I know, no one is really sure where they came from. When the Bible was cannonized, it was decided that they were good books, just not the inspired word of God, so they were omitted. The DSS include a lot of old copies of OT books (nothing about Christ's life though, as said in the Da Vinci Code), but the scrolls which were used to translate the Bible are very close to other scrolls we have found in content. Usually they are virtually exact matches. The BoM...well, it just depends on whether you believe Joseph Smith's claims about hearing from God and finding it as to taking that as the Word of God.
And as for the gnostic gospels, most scholars date them post 100 AD (Biblical gospels are 40-60 AD). It is most likely an oral tradition that was carried on by different sects in Christianity until it was finally written down. The thing with these is that they often offer contradictory messages to what others and the Biblical ones say. Paul wrote to churches often about avoiding falling into these teachings, and the writtings we have from real old school Christians (100 AD-300 AD, before the Bible as we have it now was finalized) reference the books that were included in the New Testament but don't say anything about the gnostic gospels.
Hope that helps somewhat

No other holy book has had so universal a distribution, nor does any have origins even half as old. The Koran of Mohammedanism is less than 1,400 years old. Buddha and Confucius lived about 2,500 years ago, and their writings date from that time. The Scriptures of Shinto were composed in their present form no more than 1,200 years ago. The Book of Mormon is only 140 years old. None of these holy books can accurately trace human history back through 6,000 years, as does the Bible. To understand original religion, we must therefore go to the Bible. It is the only book with a universal message for all mankind.
The wisdom and beauty of the Bible message have been acclaimed by thinking men from all nations and from all walks of life. The famous scientist and discoverer of the law of gravity, Sir Isaac Newton, said: “No sciences are better attested to than the Bible.” Patrick Henry, the American revolutionary leader famous for the words “Give me liberty, or give me death,” also declared: “The Bible is worth all other books which have ever been printed.” Even the great Hindu sage Mahatma Gandhi once told the British viceroy of India: “When your country and mine shall get together on the teachings laid down by Christ in this Sermon of the Mount, we shall have solved the problems, not only of our countries but those of the whole world.” Gandhi was speaking of Matthew, chapters 5 to 7, in the Bible.

A false and sloppy premise. If you use a quote you need to identify your source. You fabricated a verse that does not appear anywhere in the bible in order to create a biased question. The actual bible verse you corrupted is from the book of Romans, chapter 10, verse 17. Which does not say that the word is the bible. YOU added that. As most any adult wiil know the scriptures were written many years before the bible was compiled, and so it would impossible for any scripture in the bible to refer to the bible.

Joseph Smith supposedly recieved from the angel Moroni golden plates that could be read with the use of a couple of 'seer' stones. Smith sat behind a curtain, gazing into a hat, supposedly reading lines of the Book of Mormon as they appeared on the stones and dictated them to a scribe outside the curtain. Using a seer stone is called scrying (from decry "to read") which is an occult practice still popular in contemporary witchcraft.
This was the beginning of just one of your alternative 'scriptures'. The word of God was given through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit to those who knew God. It is inspired, it is exclusive, it is Holy and there is no other.
All else is simply doctrine of demons.

First the book of mormon is a book full of lies written to lead people away from Jesus not to Him. CJClds is a cult, just ask people who have escaped their hold, ask them how many attempts on their life have taken place since they left. Ask them about their employment, and being disowned by family members still there. GO AHEAD ASK THEM.
Where are these other books, make them available to me and I will read them, pray, and let you know all about them.
Any other so called Holy book is false teachings. It says in Revelation "anyone who adds to the Bible the plagues in it will be added to them, and anyone who takes away from the Bible their names will be taken away from the Book of Life.
As far as the Apocrypha, and the Dead see scrolls, I have read them, they are good to learn a little more about what was happening at the time, but really go no further, and are cannon material.

The books of the Bible were chosen so the most straight forward message could be sent out. Its considered the only true work of God because all the other books were discredited by the Church because they go against the grain and raise questions about religion. So the Church destroyed them and anything else that threatened its influence.

People believe that because most are indoctrinated from birth. The King James Version made it very clear that the bible is the innerrant word of God, and it's the most common bible to be printed. Perhaps if people weren't indoctrinated they'd come to a different conclusion.
In addition to Judeo-Christianity (which seems to be what you're asking about), there's Islam, Buddhism, Taoism, B'hai, and Paganism.....just to name a few.

We have learned all that has been selected by the canon for us to know about the teachings of Jesus Christ. Yes I do believe that there are other books that are inspired by the Holy Spirit of Christ but that's the way we were given it as a people. it is up to us to go and find our own answers, The Holy Bible is the road map that leads us to more greater revelations of Christ

The books in the New Testament were authenticated by the direct disciples (and eyewitnesses) of Jesus Christ and his life and his teachings.
Other books have not been authenticated in this manner. This is why Christians have not considered them to be the word of God.
Cordially,
John

That's why I decided to become spiritual and not follow any single religion or doctrine since this is a perfect example of how religions have managed to divide the peoples of the earth instead of uniting them. We need to have certain traits before we can intelligently discuss and begin to realize what other scriptures and doctrines are all about; understanding, willingness, openmindedness, and kindness.
