You shouldn't buy her a bird unless you are certain she will want one, or unless YOU are prepared to take on the responsibility of keeping the bird, should she decide she isn't ready for it yet. No one should EVER buy a pet to replace a lost one, nor should you EVER give a pet as a gift. Please think not only of your friend, but of the animal as well.
Try talking to her first. Ask her gently if she'd like another bird. Keep in mind that a "Maybe someday" answer is NOT your cue to run to the nearest store and buy one!
Your friend will need time to grieve first. Be sympathetic and gentle with how you bring up the topic. If she changes the subject, or seems upset by it, drop it and dont bring it up again for awhile. If she likes talking about birds, or seems eager to have another one soon, then you might be able to surprise her with one. HOWEVER, I wouldn't just run out and buy her one. Try surprising her with a trip to a bird rescue, where the birds there will really need her.
Chances are, seeing these poor, unwanted souls will pull at her heart. Let HER pick her new companion out, but offer to pay the adoption fee, or surprise her with a nice cage stocked with treats and toys for the bird she chooses. She'll appreciate your heart being in the right place, as well as helping out her pocketbook!

People kind of have their own way of moving through grief - some people are ready for a new pet the same day their other one passes, and some need weeks to years to recover.
I would get her a card, and let her know that when and if she is ready to get a new bird, that you would like to support her in that decision and go along with her.
I think it would be a mistake, and may be overwhelming if you showed up with a new bird - you cannot simply replace a pet.
Here is a great resource that talks about how to help a friend through the loss of a pet, and the stages they may go through. Hope that helps. Good luck.

I would ask her first. Some people need a long time to heal after the death of a pet. With some people it can take years. With others it takes months. Then there's people who hate aching so much that they rush out and get a new pet a few days after the first one died. I'm like that. I miss the first pet dearly, but I hate being petless so I look for a new one within a week. it doesn't mean I hate the old pet - I love them dearly. it's just how I cope with the loss of an animal I've spent many years loving.

I dont suggest you get her another one; till you find out what killed the first one. Birds can often die of a disease and you wont know it till you have it necropsied by a vet.
I do not suggest another bird for at least three months, its goign to take that long for her to get over the loss of this one if she really cared about it. Be kind to her, and understanding even if you dont understand... being kind is hard to do lately... people dont seem to understand how to console someone who has lost a pet... except for others who have lost pets..... you are a good person for caring and wanting to help..THANKS!

In my journey entities can impression animals much better quite then human beings, yet hardly have a pick to. From my journey the entities of the former living come of as brainless maximum the time, yet i am going to admit there is a great number of info to sugest they don't look so brainless. I actual have under no circumstances considered a entity of the former living which became some thing yet low skill style also, per chance because the authentic essence of the fellow is going to a special position and purely the shadow or memory of them remains...yet thats a tuff topic to bypass over. in case your chum died and remained no matter if or not they were a low skill entity, they wouldnt pick to a lot skill to manipuliate a poultry...in spite of the indisputable fact that ive enver heard of a low type entity having the skill to take administration of the living completely in spite of the hosts assistance, yet animals are extremly weak vs human beings, so its plausible the poultry is linked on your chum. human beings will in many circumstances no longer be conscious issues which have existed each day interior of their lives, then even as a suden change occurs and their suggestions isn't any longer happy with how issues are and seeks solutions or search for's for reality's to resolve their psychological conflicts, they in many circumstances be conscious issues they under no circumstances realized existed, yet when the poultry is equipped in the front of u...properly thats not basic no longer to be conscious.

Just tell her that you are sorry for her loss, and ask her if she would like another bird. I think your idea shows what a good friend you are. If you know her well enough than use your own judgment, but I think she would be very grateful if you bought her a new bird. Good luck and take care.

Go for it! Buy her a new one. Especially if she really likes birds or still has some. She may get sad, but she'll also appreciate you for trying to help. It's a win-win, you'll get "props" for it, and she'll get another bird.

oh come on now LOL you know it will but if you buy her a new one she has another to pick up and build new happy moments.
ok a question pose to you:
if you had a dog that you grew up with and he died after 5 years would you get another dog. or Salk on your dead pet and try to remember old happy memories only or old memories and new ones that could be if you had a new pet.
now go to it good luck!
