that's an astute observation.

Santa Claus doesn't exist if you don't believe in him.

First, certain religions (if not all) do not depend upon other people outside its religion to see it the same way.

For example, for the Muslims they believe that their Islamic religion is teaching them the truth about the oneness of God, about doing good things etc without the necessity for someone outside Islamic religion to approve or verify the teaching of Islam.

The problem starts when someone ask question or seek explanation from certain religious group but at the same time make harsh (even sometimes extreme) comment. When that happen, you will not receive an answer or explanation but instead a debate will occur. When debate started between two groups then you may presume that they are debating so that the other side will see their belief system the same way they see it. But actually the group is angry that the other group is making harsh negative remarks on their belief system. Religion is a serious matter. Religious people will get offended if someone insult their religion. Don't you get angry if someone insulted your parents or children? Most people will will get angry if someone insulted their parents or children because they love their parents/children and take care of them seriously.

Most religious people love their religion.

It isn't every religion or belief system. Most pagans see things differently and expect others to do the same. We don't try to shove our ideas down anyones' throat and happily go our own way. I have never been cornered by a Buddhist or told I was doomed because I wasn't just like them. It's mostly the Big Three; Christians, Islamics, and some Jewish that feel all not like them are wrong. There are always a few in every path that will not fit this.

Every religious belief is not dependent upon other people.

Your faith is your faith; if you need others to validate it, you are not being faithful to your faith or to yourself.

You either believe something or you do not; sometimes belief takes a while.

That being said,

Rom 10:14 But how can they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how can they believe without hearing about Him? And how can they hear without a preacher?
Rom 10:15 And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: How welcome are the feet of those who announce the gospel of good things!
Rom 10:16 But all did not obey the gospel. For Isaiah says, Lord, who has believed our message?
Rom 10:17 So faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes through the message about Christ.

Yeah very much because every religion is based on the belief of many people as the underlying concept of religion in itself is for the well being of the community .So, every belief requires that it is believed by the people in the community. For instance, christians believe that Jesus is the messenger of God and had divine powers. For this belief to have survived the test of time , it needed all generations through the last thousand years to have believed in this concept and to have accepted Jesus as a messenger of God with divine powers. If any of the generations during that period and after had thought otherwise, in the 21st century, no one would be talking about Jesus as a messenger of God .

Not mine.

I believe that the Universe is big enough and complex enough to accomodate all belief systems. Christians experience Christ. Hindus experience Vishnu. I'm cool with that, as long as everyone is happy. The Universe Itself seeks a dialogue with the individual Soul, and it will use whatever conceptual vocabulary it must to reach common ground. The Jungian scientist will experience this as synchronicities or "waking dreams." Meaningful experience.

Most other folks want their beliefs corroborated because they haven't reached the level of understanding that the Universe has no preference of vocabulary... It just wants your attention.

The whole concept of Christianity is that you have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. It has nothing to do with anyone else. Now the idea of preaching and teaching others about Christ came from him. He said in Matthew 28:19 "Go therefore[a] and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit". So the idea for proselytizing came from Jesus himself and is a commandment to all Christians. This has been behind the concept of missionary work from the time of Paul of Tarsus.

That is why I prefer to be spiritual and not dependent on any religion or single belief since religion has served well to divide the peoples of the earth instead of uniting them.

I'm not certain from how you phrased your question, but I think you are referring to the concept of Truth vs relativism. If something is "true" then it is in some form a "constant" . . . something that cannot be changed. In that sense, if a religion is "true" then all other religions are false. This requires a person to "see it the same way" . . . hope that answers your question . . .

Christianity has a core that all true Christians believe.

Apart from that core (the gospel), Christians are free to believe differently on secondary teachings (like baptism, church government etc).

For a brief explanation of the gospel (of salvation through Jesus Christ), see http://www.godsci.org/gs/new/essence.html

Cordially,
John
