Stop spilling your puppies...
No, really, the best way is to treat the stain immediately after the puppy urinates. Mop up all the urine that you can, then pour cold water onto the same area that the puppy urinated on, then mop that water up. Keep repeating the rinsing until no more colour comes from your carpet. I've used a towel to mop most of the moisture away, then white paper towel to check how much stain is still coming out. It really works, our carpets look and smell unscathed and we've had four puppies. I'm sure there are commercial preparations you could use, but water's cheap and works really easily.
Good luck with the potty training! (Obviously that's the best way to prevent stains!)

A crate. I use one for the first year. Ohh, my dad was in the carpet bidnez forever. He said always pour vinegar and water on urine, put down towel, walk on it, repeat 3 or 4 times. Stains, I'm clueless.

Old set in stains...probably a rug over them. I bought a Green Machine for my carpets so that right after an accident, I can get them up. Once they set, they're very very difficult. As far as odor...try Urine Gone. It is sold at Target, and I think that it works great.

Natures's Miracle.. It's the best.. stains and odors.. Pertsmarts, or a feed/supply store will have the stuff..
Or there is something called Folex.. sounds stupid, I know, but it works on everything!! I've seen it at Home Depot

The best product I have found so far is Pet Pee Be Gone. http://www.peebegone.com/ You don't have to wipe it up or anything, just put it on the stain/urine and let it do it's job.
