When you wake up, you have left a state of sleep called the REM. This is a period of random thoughts that make up the dream. However, the reticular activating system kicks in when you wake up as an overdrive agains this REM state. So you may not be able to comprehend these two different brain signals in your head similutaneously. However, there are instances when they will linger in your memory well into your wakeful state. The best way to remem ber your dream is to actually awake during the critical REM state (usually in the middle of the night) and write down or tell your dream you just had. In the morning you should rmember tha dream because you incorporated your wakeful state into the REM state.

it doesn't always happen that way.what i mean to say is that we do have few dreams in our memory even after 7 yrs of seeing in our sleep (it happened to me) but few dreams do go away as soon as we wake up.and sometimes when we force our mind to remember the dream which we think was interesting one or a good one and very apt to share it with someone,we can make our mind remember it. and out of 100 of dreams only 5 to 6 can be stored in ur memory ,well thats what i think. i don't really know the exact reason .it may be that dreams are seen when our mind is not completely conscious and hence we don't order our mind to store it just as we do while studying for exams. i think u got what i tried to explain :)

Dreams and Logic/Memory take place in two different areas of the brain.
This is why its very difficult to read or do mathematics in your dream.
Also since your logic centers are offline, things like flying, defying gravity, surviving things that would normally kill you and saying things you wouldn't normally say or do take place in dreams alot.
Keep in mind too that when you dream, you don't realize your dreaming even though you may end up in a past situation that there's no possible way you could be in - such as with a deceased love one.

I don't. Sometimes I can remember a dream while I am just thinking about anything. A month ago I remembered a dream I had like 3 years ago.

Because your brainwaves are different when you're dreaming than when you're awake. You can train yourself to remember them if you want. Keep a notepad or journal by your bed and write them down as soon as you wake up. The more you do this, the better you'll get at remembering them.

Just try to think bout your dream after you wake up: do not look outside the window and don't put the TV on.

Probably because your mind is working so fast. And then when you wake up you forget all about what you were dreaming about- and your probably focused on something else.

it depends of a variation of things, like if you smoke weed, drink of do orthe types of drugs this for one affects your memory. also there are different levels of sleep. plus sometimes you dont dream at all. but when you do sometimes you have to think about it and you dont think too well when you first wake up. but if you really want to remember, set your alarm to wake u up at 2am 4am and you will remember them then. also dreams seem to be really long but only last seconds in real time

cause its just our brains way of letting off steam, and our dreams happen mostly when we are in REM sleep (rapid eye movement) as soon as this stage is up we wake up knowing we have dreamed but we cant remember what about.
