if the dog tries to bite a baby PUT IT DOWN! how would you feel if some unsuspecting family adopts your dog has a new baby and your dog kills their baby?

Some states will find you responsible if you place that pet into a new home and it bites someone else. You might want to check with your local laws on that matter.

If you feel that there is no way to come up with a schedule to save this dog from being put to sleep or finding another home - for example, you can crate him when the baby is awake, and let him out when the baby is sleeping. It will be less than 2 years before the dog should be fine with what you describe above as the age in which the dog gets along with children.

Isn't the investment of a crate and a little bit of training much less devistating than having to get rid of your family fur member?

If you cannot do this, and local laws do not hold you liable if you place the dog into a new home, then you can contact any local rescue (finding them on petfinders.com is a good start) to take the dog. You can also put out a notice among your friends and relatives and see if anyone is looking for a new fur family member.

Good Luck.

If it were my dog that attempted to bite my child it would have already been dead. Do you want this dog to bit another child, if adopted by a family with children.?or even a friend that comes over with a small child.?Kids dont know any different than to be picking at a dog . I also think that because they are smaller they are viewed as more of a threat to the dog. so he can show power or dominance over the baby . Hard decision .
I"m not one to believe in killing animals , but one that shows tendancy of biting, doesnt belong around kids. My parents had a cat once that walked up to my baby when he was crawling on the floor. jumped at him ,grabbed my baby on both sides of his head and bit him on the forehead. My son was nowhere near the cat. Needless to say when we got back from the emergency room the cat was gone. My father took care of it. Cant imagine the damage if it had been a 45 pound dog.

Hello! There are a couple options available, the first one is to never let the baby and dog be in the same room... get online and place ads for him, PLEASE do not say FREE. Too many dogs wind up in labs teaching vets how to treat other animals and they suffer terribly!!! There is no excuse for this to happen but it still does. IN the morning call a couple of veterinarians, tell them what has happened and ask if they know of anyone who does rescue or will foster the dog until another proper home can be found..

Please, I understand how you feel, but the dog really cant help it, he is afraid or jealous of the baby..But dont put him in a pound, they only get a few days then they're put to death... 15 MILLION animals are killed because there are no homes for them.... If you were closer, I"d be glad to have him! But we're in florida....

There are dog rescues everywhere, but be careful that he goes into a REAL good one... not a collector of animals where he will really be uncared for.. or bait for the dog fighters... you MUST be very VERY careful about who gets him! I am into Bird Rescue, I have hardly no connections to dog rescues...

You really must be guarded about who or where he goes.... I hope that you can keep him away from the baby long enough to find the right kind of home.... Ginger

Instead of getting rid of the poor dog, why not just keep the baby away from the dog? Some dogs aren't happy with their tails being pulled, etc. and some get jealous. Don't you have a backyard the dog can spend some time in, just don't ignore him, maybe that is the problem.

Why don't you try some training for the dog???? Keep your dog and child seperated. Children tend to torment dogs and cats at young ages. It is not your dogs fault. your dog might feel threatened by the childs actions and you need to teach your child to not hurt dog if the child is doing something specific to irritate your dog.

Don't give up yet. Give the dog to someone you know well until the baby gets older. It sounds like the dog is already adjusted and they get jealous just like humans.

Nobody wants a dog that might bite. Put him to sleep. There are plenty of other dogs out there that will not bite and need homes instead.

Call your local humane society, or no-kill shelter or put an ad in your local paper. Be sure to be honest that he doesn't like kids, so the next family doesn't have a disaster.

Try calling your local pet shelter and see if they have any ideas. Some dogs don't like babies it's a territory thing.
