the airforce isnt bad depending on which deployment zone you are in...some bases never go to iraq, some go all the time. but that is like any other branch of the military, my dad is in the army and loves it, free everything...housing, electricity, water, discounted store bought items, i think it is a great way to meet new people, but tat is also for everything except reserves and i think national gaurd, but not sure. i am 15 and moved 7 times with the military, basic is hard but everything else is a breeze from what ive heard, coast guard would be rather hard i would think. and from what you described you knw ver little about the areas of our forces so i can tell you anything you want to know about the army or give you my dads e-mail adress and you can just ask him yourself, so e-mail me off of my avitar page (the pic beside my answer) and i would be more than happy to talk and i am also online anytime after 10pm TN time and ready to chat, again off my avitar page, so i hope i helped

Air force does 3 month tours of duy in Iraq, not two years. The army does up to two years, but mostly it is one year in country. I really think it depends what he is wanting to do. The coast guard is a great organization, you will see quite a bit of action if you are on the southeastern coast. Inland rivers are mainly for search and rescue and inspections of rivercraft, but it really depends what he wants to do. I am in the Army and love it. I'm looking at transferring to the coast guard as a rescue pilot, as the combat role is for the young guys without families (20yr. old here). The coast guard will be a station somewhere stateside. Any other branch is a hope, wish, dream for stateside station. The Marines are the hardest to get promoted in because they are small, the Navy has extreme room for growth, however most sailors have 6 months at sea. You can look at Japan for duty station and learn Japanese, which translaters in the civilian capacity now make $300 an hour. Just a little information, but he really needs to talk to a recruiter. Don't sign anything until you are sure of what you want.

if he wants inland military..the marines is really intense..thats y the marines is looked at the most dignified and superior force in land military...
the air force is the most lenient out of all the forces...its the "easiest" i would say...
the navy i dont know much about.
the army treats u like sh** if ur a corporal....
watever force he wants to go to, its recommended that he went to a four-year college..that way he can easily get into a higher position instead of the lowest first officer (they really treat u harsh)
