When you encounter a woman wearing a long to medium length skirt or dress do you show her more respect? I used to wear pants all the time but have just started wearing dresses and skirts because my hubby likes them. Well when I'm out running errands I've noticed more men hold doors for me, offer to help with heavy items and just act more gentlemanly. I work in a warehouse store and even the guys on the floor won't let me move items that are heavy now. I never got that when I wore pants. Is this common?

I don't understant Popeye saying that men think women in pants can look after themselves, and at the same time respect women in skirts more.

So, what - you have more respect for women who can't take care of themselves? That's some crazy warped logic.

As a woman, I don't care what people wear - I hold the door open for anyone (male or female) coming through behind me, or offer to help people who look like they're struggling with heavy or awkwardly shaped boxes or whatever. It's just common courtesy people - a skirt deserves no more of it than a pair of trousers do -- whether they're on a man or a woman!

I would say so. Women who wear dresses rather than pants of some kind have a more feminine appearance and do not seem as "physical" . . . Besides that, I would say that it is very impractical for a woman in a dress (and possibly heels) to be carrying much of anything other than her purse. I also think that women who make the effort to wear dresses will tend to have a very well kept and feminine appearance more so than when women wear pants and such . . . It may seem a bit un-PC, but I think most men will do most anything for a pretty lady . . .

I never thought about it, or encountered people treating me differently based on what I'm wearing. People generally always hold the door open for me - and I do it for other people too. I don't really have too many people treating me poorly because I am wearing pants one day.

Yes. A woman wearing pants may be offended if a man shows her old-fashioned courtesy. She may regard such acts as "keeping her in her place". The more feminine you look, the more gentlemanly we act.

well kinda, i as a guy know that in pants you seem more like you could handle yourself, you dont care about looks you are a laid back kinda person who really just likes to have fun, but while in a dress you awaiken our brains to the fact that you are a woman who needs to be treated with curtasy and politenes, and men respect you alot more, so if you are comfortabe with the increase in friendliness keep the dresses, it also pleases your husband...two thumbs up, but i also treat everyone the same...girl/guy, feminane/manly...everyone deservs equal respect

I think that I do, although I make an effort to be courteous all the time regardless of what folk are wearing. The more feminine a woman looks the more I'm inclined to make an extra effort, perhaps it's our nature; it seems to be mine.

nope dont care what she is wearing. she gets the same respect whether she looks like a star or looks like she just got back from the trailer park. a woman is a woman and deserves to be treated as such. (sorry but just taught that as a kid)
