Two days ago I had a fever. Probably a flu virus. No matter how many clothes and blankets I put on, (and that in a heated room), I was still shivering from cold. Now, I only shiver intermittently, and other times feel hot and start sweating.

I know I'm sick and that my body is trying to fight it off. I am asking for an physiological explanation of why the body is finding it so difficult to hold on to its heat.

Your body is fighting off whatever you have (probably the flu). Make sure you keep hydrated with water (no sodas or anything like that).

sounds like an infection to me (or as u said, the flu) in other words nothing out of the ordinary. SEE A DOCTOR and get lots of liquids, or you will dehydrate.
