Often fundamentalists claim that the Bible and other Holy books condemn homosexuality, and use this as rationale for condemning gays and denying them human rights.

The Bible is just as strong in condemning both adultery and divorce (Leviticus 20:10 says adulterers must be put to death and both the gospels of Luke and Mark equate remarriage after divorce with adultery), yet I hear no televangelists calling for the rights of divorcees and adulterers to be revoked.

I believe it is because a lot of people are homophobic. They are afraid of homosexuals. They act like they can catch it. They know all about divorce and adultery so they can't catch that. Doesn't the bible also say something about not judging others? So who are we to sit there and say that all gays are going to burn in he#@. If your only reason for telling them that they will burn is because of the bible then you should be telling all the adulterers that too.

You don't have the full picture of what the Bible says about divorce. God in fact is a divorcee, He divorced Israel. All sin is forgiven when repenting takes place. "Revoked" is not the correct word.

Yes, the Bible is clear that the ACT of homosexuality is an "abomination" meaning it goes against what God intended. It does not say to hate the sinner, it simply categorized the sin. No part of the Bible is about taking away anyones human rights, but what the Bible says stands above what any humans think or feel.

Some fundamentalists are legalists and rigidly misintrept the Bible. Others hit it right on. I would be more inclined to outraged at the fact that for centuries women have been relegated to 2nd class citizen, treated worse than animals in some cases and told they can't be anything important in the church. These are all wrong and it has to do with a wrong element sometimes preaching and misintreptation of the Bible verse. So, women have much more to complain about when it comes to fundamentalists.

The only rights I see that homosexuals are not given is the right to marriage. This is one thing that has not been accepted widely by society no matter what the religion, if any. However divorce has become a very common thing. I took a sociology class in high school and I remember reading about the divorce rate. Divorce is no longer something we don't talk about or can only take place by permission. Adultery, unless it has taken place to political officials or famous people, is often not brought to the attention of the public. It is often the cause of divorce, another reason the divorce may be overlooked. You can't just look at religious reasons you also need to look at how society views such things.

Boy have you hit the nail on the head with this one. Unfortunately, if someone is condemning homosexuality but not adultery and or divorce then they are WRONG. God condemned all three of these things...if you say you are a Christian, then you better condemn them as well.

Understand though, God DID NOT condemn homosexuals, adulterers or divorcees. He loves all and condemns only the sin.

God Bless.

AMEN!!!!! Excellent question! Maybe to keep the spotlight off of themselves. Plus they only take what they want from the bible. I do not know a single Christian who follows every scripture in the bible. Yet they are very quick to condemn others for doing the same.
Disease is the most ridiculous answer I've ever heard. I know plently of straight people have gotten AIDS and Herpes. Look up the fastest growing group of new AIDS cases...it's white, heterosexuals, age 50 and above. And they are getting sick because they still believe AIDS is a gay disease, therefore they couldn't possible be at risk.

When we use words the mind tends to convert them to pictures. When you think of the concept of divorce, you may think of two people having an argument. The concept of adultery, might be viewed as a heterosexual couple engaged in sex in a hotel. The concept of homosexuality may bring to mind homosexual acts, which some people find disgusting. These people react more strongly toward the concept of homosexuality then they do towards divorce or adultery. They just cannot deal with the reality that some people are engaging in homosexual behavior.

Adultery is the not perversion...It is simply breaking of what should be a permanent union.
In homosexuality the sexual union is perverted and abused. The homosexual's sexual union cannot produce a son or daughter Therefore no legacy is perpetuated. This is destuctive socially.
The homosexual relationship is twisted or "queer".Even the physical "mating" is unnatural. It is widespread today as the disfunctional family doesn't foster the gender reinforcment essential against the deviant nature of this world and self.

The world is just a messed up place when it comes to certain issues. Since 99% of people commit adultery and get divorced everyone just looks past it but it is still wrong. Sin is sin there is no degree.

They are all equally condemned... it is the homosexual however that blatantly denies the Bible.

God made Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve. Gay marriage does not reproduce children... however I find it interesting that you are watching televangelists on tv. Some are ok, others are not. You know them by their fruit in their personal lives.
