There is no "best way to stop a sunburn when it happen(d)s" because it has already been done. Aloe vera is what you can treat it with but other than that you're out of luck.

You cannot stop a sunburn once you have one. You can only treat it. Get out of the sun, put on sunblock and then moisturize your skin with lotion or gel that is made for sunburns. You can use Solarcain for the pain or take asprin.

To stop it from accelerating even farther you can use a moisturizing lotion. You need to apply it liberally several times a day. For comfort during this process a pharmacist told me dermablast was the best. Your skin is dehydrated and the only thing now is to get the moisture back in. It's a long painful process. Good Luck

this really works. put aloe vera gel in refrigerator. take a hot shower, the water has to be hot. then put on aloe vera gel. it will hurt at first but it works! the sunburn will be much less painful and will not last long.

cut off a couple of stems from an Aloe Vera plant and throw them in the freezer. let them get nice and cold then slice them and gently rub the juice on the burned areas

a cooling burn spray like solarcaine or some aloe vera spray. take a cool shower to cool the skin...and then take a tylenol....it actually helps with the burn as well. Keep lotion on it to avoid peeling.

aloe vera gel works after you have already been burned. But to stop it from happening you need sunscreen, SPF30 works best!

When it happens, it is too late.
The best way to stop further burning, and I am not being "smart" is to get out of the sun.
