You ask either farmer the question "what would the other farmer say if I asked if the cow was a spy?" The opposite of the answer will be the truth.

I think I would ask the dishonest farmer if he would go and fetch the cow in the field, since I suspect that he must be it's owner. Then I'd wait to see what happened because the lying farmer would likely accept that challenge of fetching the cow, and if it were not real, the farmer would discover that for me.

Oh my God...it is one thing not to come up with the right answer for the question, but have some of you stopped and thought about your answer for even a split second? Can you really be that dense?
"Is that a cow?" "are you a cow?" "is that your cow?" For crying out loud......are you serious?

Assuming THEY know whether it's really a cow, you'd ask him "Would the other farmer say that that's really a cow?" Whatever he says, it's the opposite--the liar will lie about what the truth-teller would say, and the truth-teller will be honest about what the liar would say. So if he says yes, it's a spy.

You'd ask "Answer yes or no. If I were to ask the other farmer is that cow a cow. what would their reply be?" The answer would be the opposite of what was answered. This same type of question was on Labrynth. Love that movie!

If it is a cow, the liar will lie and tell the other one would say it isn't, which means it is and the truthteller will tell the truth that the other one would lie and say it isn't and vice versa. Makes sense?
