The cheapest, easiest way to get rid of fleas is to give your pet a bath in Dawn dishwashing liquid. This is only to get them off of your pet and doesn't keep them from getting them again. You will need to treat their bedding and perhaps get new.

Flea and tick shampoo is a couple of bucks, wash them once a week for three weeks to get rid of any left over eggs...If they are puppies you cant use those shampoos yet, take them out side and rub them down with yeast, the fleas will jump off...For long term help front-line is sold at Walmart...a drop will last like three months.

For even better long term care go to petco's web site and look up pet health insurance with is like between $9 and $15 a month..this will give you free check ups and shots, as well as flea and tick protection..and this will protect you from large un expected vet bills cause by any illness or injury (do an on-line comparison some will have you pay bill up front the reimburse you, others will pay bill for you except for deductible)

The cheapest stuff you can buy to get rid of fleas is in the pet isle in wal-mart.

The MOST effective stuff you can buy to get rid of fleas is at your vet's office: frontline or advantage
Its worth the money to get rid of fleas for good off ur dog than to have to keep buying cheap non-effective stuff from wal-mart and where ever else they sell flea products over the counter.

Cheapest stuff that WORKS is Advantage or a capstar
Capstar is a pill, last 1-2 days and is less than $3 or advantage is a topical and last 1 month and is $7-12 depending on the size of the dog. Both are non-prescriptioin at a vet's office and gauranteed to work. That Hartz stuff is not and usually doesn't work.

Getting frontline plus is most effective. I know somebidy who thought it was too expensive so she didn't buy it. But she spent many, many times more over 10 YEARS trying to get rid of the fleas in her house. When she finally got Frontline Plus, the whole house infestation was gone in a bout a month. It's about $15 per month, but much cheaper than many other ways to try to control fleas.

I'm going to agree with the others.
Frontline will get rid of them and keep them off.
And here's a secret....The Vet office inside Petsmart stores, I think it is Banfield or something like that, anyway they will sell them in individual doses. So you don't have to buy that expensive three month supply. Trust me by the time you purchase a shampoo (that may not work) and spray for your house(that usually doesn't work) or a collar, you are better off with the Frontline.
Keep in mind that Fleas can live (without food) for up to 3 months, just hinding out in your couch or carpet.
Good luck

Flea collars and cheap flea treatments are a waste of money. You buy one, it doesn't work... you buy another brand, it doesn't work... and so on, until you've spent so much it would've been cheaper to just buy the good stuff to begin with. Frontline and Advantix are all I will use now, and once you've used them you'll understand why they're worth the $. I buy mine at the local Pet Supplies Plus for around $50 (US) for three doses. I'm sure there are other retailers who offer these products without an expensive vet visit. My local PetSmart does not sell these brands, so I asked a clerk about the quality of the other flea products they offered. She told me not to buy them!

Sorry to tell you, but it's worth the money spend at the groomer & vet clinic for a flea dip and then some flea prevention medication.....
The ''cheapest'' stuff available, is usually cheap because it isn't effective.

Seven dust. It is a poison. Don't breath it or leave it on your hands, and your dog will be sickly for a few days if you use too much. Best to do a little over a longer period, a teaspoon a day for two weeks, dry, on areas less likely to get licked. NOT ORAL! Put it on your carpet too. Remember, it is a poison. Fear it.
