The dog is probably going through seperation anxiety, and should settle down in a while. I would suggest paying the dog a lot of attention, and if there is no improvement, see a veterinarian.

You're diagnosis of depression is on target. Dogs that have been newly adopted, no matter what age, will often not eat or drink for 2-3 days. If the dog hasn't taken any fluids after 3 days, take him to a vet. He may need to be hydrated or perhaps there's something wrong physically.
The treatment for bereavement is having patience and showing love. Talk to him with excitement and energy in your voice when you take him out for frequent walks. Give your new dog all the physical affection he can tolerate. Buy some chew toys and a ball. Your Lab should instinctively want to fetch but if he doesn't right away, don't give up trying. Your dog is mourning a very real loss; he will come around.

Probably missing his previous owner.
Try string cheese .. reward him with it when he does something good.. like sit or down or whatever. Then switch in some dog food on him now and then.
The other issue could be the type of food. Many people are doing the raw food diet. If the dog was grown up on raw foods or some special dog food, it could be that it doesn't know how to eat or isn't used to the food you're feeding it.
Honestly! This breeder friend of ours.. she got a dog from Germany or whatever.. the dog wouldn't drink water.. it used to get all it's liquid via the fruits and veggies and all the other stuff it was fed. She had a HELL of a time getting that dog to drink water!
Gotta be careful when you become close to it too... when you leave.. it could be super traumatic for the dog. .as it relates it to the trauma it went through when his previous pack leader left him with another pack.

Could be stress from a new situation. I would give him a very little bit of time to relax, but then I would make a trip to the vet. Try some smelly, warmed up wet dog food with a bit of that gravy stuff on it and see if he will take it. You don't want him getting dehydrated so I would only wait a little.

Give him lots of attention and if you are concerned for his health, feed him a few treats a day. My mother's dog comes to stay w/ me when she goes on trips and won't eat, but I give him his doggy treats and that's what he lives on while she's gone. For some reason, they'll still usually eat their treats. Also make sure you are feeding him the same type of food in the same type of bowl his previous owners used. Just put a cup of food in at a time because it does go stale. Try putting ice cubes in his water, for some reason dogs enjoy that. Good luck to you!

I think your dog is suffering separation anxiety from your previous owner. Make sure that your dog has human company at most times and also ensure him that you are no bad guy. Play with him with his favourite ball and also ask the ex-owner to come to your house and do a re- introduction of yourself. I believe that when your dog treat you as a friendly human, he will slowly open up to you and will eat and drink.

he's in extreme discomfort if he received't eat or drink, and also you need to't even contact him. Toss a thick blanket over him, p.c.. him up, andchronic him to the vet. in case you won't be able to arise with the money for to have him dealt with, you favor to have him humanely euthanized particularly than allowing him to slowly dehydrate and starve till he dies.

Dogs have feelings just like you and I do. More than likely, he is missing his home and his surroundings. Give time, lots of love, and patience, and he should snap out of it. Create a new strong bond with your puppy, and he'll become your best friend for life.
