Try to imagine being the first primate to realize that your time on this planet is limited. That you will eventually die, and there is nothing you can do about it. I believe that would create a "what the hell is the use?" attitude. That kind of attitude could actually undermine a hunt, or a shelter creation, or anything else that offers some kind of protection against injury or death. As the realization spread among the higher level primates, through whatever primitive communications process may have existed, the extinction of the race could be close behind. Since everything that was unexplained was subject to superstition, the belief that gods or spirits or powers unexplainable existed came to be. refined over the years, and these became religions, each living for a while as the belief of choice, then being forced out by a new teaching as questions arose. Questions became so prevalent that it became necessary to stop explaining and start with the "faith" argument. That we are really too stupid to possibly understand the motives of an entity that can accomplish all of this "magic". The generic "God (insert entity here) works in mysterious ways".

I feel belief is necessary for my morality. Ultimately I will be judged on my actions in life. This could be a conversation in it's self but that's the short on that.
My life with out belief would probably be over at my own hand a long while ago but my lord promised no more then I could bear & I trusted through that time becuase I believe.
Do I believe nonbelievers are able to live equally fullfilling lives as myself? Hmmm,, I believe they might think that they are but... how do you explain to someone without a tongue the tastes he is missing when he eats?? He feels full afterwards he is happy he has never tasted sweet or sour he feels he is not missing anything.
I believe you can live with a deep respect for other peoples lives. However it would be interesting to learn where that respect for "life" stems from or from whom it was instilled.
I dont believe all non-believers will go to hell. But I do believe all will be judged at some point.
Benefits - It's not exactly a program you sign up for so I would have to think on religous vrs non religous but eternity seems like a good start.
Hope you find what you are seeking

I believe in the One True God, The Father , Son, and Holy spirit. I believe that they are a trinity. I believe in life after death. In spirit filled life. I can't imagine going back to not having God as an active part of my life.
The Holy Spirit, is my teacher, comforter, and helps me live a Christian walk.
I think that some people can accept me for my beliefs, some think that I am crazy for having the belief system that I do.
I have studied eastern religion, after being raised in a Christian home. I found it to be unfulfilling and empty. I think that others probably find the same. I don't know how that non believers could have a fulfilled life, without Christ.
My children kept waiting for me to get out of this religious phase,,,, but finally realized that I have such peace and joy, that this is my life. I am so different, to go back to the person that I was before, would smack God in the face. I love Him and couldn't turn away.
I mess up, take a backward step, have to relearn some erroneous teachings. But, that is the exciting part of being a Christian. To know, I am going to learn something new. Not to have to be perfect, That God knows I am going to stumble.
I hope this helps you understand what it is you are looking for. or what knowledge you are seeking.
Be blessed, In Christ.

A lot of good questions. I'll try to answer them.
Yes, I feel that there are gods---many of them. Some take an interest in mankind, some don't. I feel this way because I have felt their presence many times and have nurtured relationships with some.
Belief is necessary for me because I would feel lost without it. It would be ten times worse than a dozen of my very best friends dying at once. I truly love my deities and enjoy honoring them.
Whether or not one is religious, they can have an equally fulfilling life. Religion is not necessary for everyone. For those who choose it, the benefits can be a close relationship with deity/ies and the peace that comes from honoring those deities. I see nothing wrong with living with a deep respect for people. If it works for you, go with it. The only thing that matters is whether one is on the path that he/she values the most.
Not that it matters much, I have followed a pagan path since I can remember.

I am a believer that there is only one God. He is the Father of all fathers. Father of all children, regardless of colour, cast and creed. One could only see and know Him, when you can see first yourself. Ask the question to the self, do I really know who I am, my true spiritual self? You are not this body of innert matter that made up of the matter and elements but a spiritual being that exists within that give life to the body, make it moves, etc.;
Without this being one cannot exist first of all. This is why one is called human 'being'.
Therefore, human beings have to have a higher spiritual being that looks over and after them. He is the creator and director of the world and all creatures great and small.
My faith that God, my spiritual Father has His role and I as His child is playing my role accordingly on this world stage. Creating all the relationships with One and having the faith that I am His child, there is a bond between a parent and a child. His love and protection is always over me. I can exist without Him, but my quality of life would not be the same. As a child of God, I dont take any burden and sorrow; I surrendered and gave it to the Highest on High One, I am always free and have His blessing in all that I do; this is the difference between a believer and a nonbeliever.
One has to respect oneself first before respecting another, believer or nonbeliever. Give respect then recieve respect.
Anyone can live a fullfilling live, it is how you determine what a fulling filling live is, is it material and physical things, or is it a balance of both material and spirtual things. Ofcourse, on cannot live without material things but at the same time since we are more that the physical body, a spirtual being, on must act accordingly to fullfill one existence.
Hell and heaven is here on earth, it has once again determined what my thoughts, words and actions are whilst living here on earth. The law of karma is what I sow I shall reap - how much sorrow or happiness one has given to another? -- that much I will receive.
My believe is not to hurt anyone but to give love, respect and good wishes to all. What is my purpose here, if I cant do good to all.

I do believe in a God. The reason that I believe that there is only one is because I believe that God is an all-powerful, all-knowing, utterly perfect Being. There cannot be two utterly perfect beings, because, to be able to identify one being from another, one must have a quality or qualities that the other does not (imperfections). If this were true, then this being could not even be a god, because it is not perfect. Thus, I believe that there is a God, and He is perfect in every way (as is the definition of being a god, at least in my standards).

One thing that rings true is that all people believe something even if it is in themselves. Humans are built to believe in something higher than them. Of course this mechanism is to lead us back to our true Creator which is God. I know that their are people that are not believers that live fulfilling lives, they have it all. Of course, the Bible says that God reins on the just as well as the unjust so we know that their will be anthiest such as yourself. No matter what at the end of our days we all will face God whether you believe in Him or not. At that point all will know he is real. The gods that many people choose to serve will not judge you. They have no power, they're not alive. You see some of those gods are our jobs, our wives, husbands, girl/boyfriends, money, lifestyle, etc. They're are many facets to the word god. But it is any thing, image, practice, etc that you choose to serve. It is also spiritual beings that are unseen by many of us.
I hope this helps you in some small way. I also hope that you seek God for yourself. Ask him what or whom should you believe.

Many gods (small g = demons) are worshiped world wide. Some of these demons exist as separate entities, many have multi facets and appear as different gods to different peoples and religions.
This is all part of the SPIRITUAL WARFARE that you have hears about.

Nope...or maybe there are gods/god who knows. I really don't care.
Though I do believe in spirits...or that's probably the result of watching too many horror flicks.
