Muslims are not extremists at all.
Yes they are fundamentalists. Their belief is still attached with the Muhammad ,Jesus, Mosus, Isac, Ismail, Lot and even Adam (peace be upon them all) and because they adhere to the basis of religion, they are called fundamentalists.
BUT THEY ARE NOT EXTREMISTS.
When Muhammad (peace be upon him) came, he did not ask the people of that times for anything but to follow the message that was sent by Jesus (peace be upon him).
Muslims believe in all messengers and one Allah the Almighty.
Religion is not something that keeps changing with the passage of time. Muslims believe in the religion that was sent 1425 years ago and will keep following that till the day od judgement.
Yes I agree some people do misuse the religion always and this happens in every religion.
We all muslims condemn the innocent killings by any means, hatred against non-believers, and enforcement of islam to the non-believers.
At the same time muslims expect these from all other believers.
Islam does not teach religious conquests. If this had been the case ,there would not have been anuother religion except islam.
Islam teaches tolerence, patience, peace and everything that you can imagine.
I WOULD REALLY URGE EVERYBODY TO PLEASE STUDY ISLAM BEFORE MAKING ANY COMMENT AND NOT TO BIELIVE ANYBODY WHO IS JUST EXPLOITING ISLAM. THIS IS MY HUMBLE REQUEST.

Except for maybe a Buddist ( I have never known an Buddist extremist) any religion can have someone that takes it to a wrong level. Christianity had its round in Europe in the middle ages, and we saw it in the US with some of christians using it to justify and start the KKK.
It is only that killing ones self is not a way to gain a way to heaven in christianity as it in with some cultures.
But todays christianity has been weakened greatly by the divisoins of denimation and by other the ideas of freedoms of democratic political systems and Christianity ( they actually don't work real good together since God is not voted on, and there is no majority rule idea in christianity)
But Mohammad ( sorry my and the opinion of alot of Christian authors) is that Mohammad wrote the Quran taking it from various religious teachings he had contact with in his areas.
It was written as a religion of control of its poeple. This keeeps the people controled and justified the conquests of other nations and lands. Plus its concept of non acceptance of any other religious idea or beleif.

I think that you are wrong, this is one Muslim who is definitely not an extremist, and I have known no Muslim extremists, only the ones that we hear about in the media. I think that you are wrong about Christians, think about when the Age of Exploration came around priests and whatnot went to all other countries in order to convert people, they believed in divine right. You also haven't said anything about Jews, at teh moment, they are killing Muslims just to take control of Palestine, the Muslims are willing to share the country with the Jews because it is the central point of all monotheistic religions, however, the Jews will not accept that. Believe me, I do not hate Jews, I have Jewish friends, and I am not bashing the Christians either, I have Christian friends too.

I've never seen more lies in such a short text.
No body can defend extremism but the statement that a muslim is more likely to be one is a lie.
From the begining of your statement.
From the begining of Islam Christians and Jews lived in Muslim land and they still do. Now can you compare this to the Muslims that were in Andalusia, exterminated ... In Grece and even in Bulgaria, Bosnia ... in the 90s of the 20th century
Talking about the early stages. In the Bible Jews entred many cities and killed every thing tey found even animals or is the Bible wrong about this ?
"Muslims did too" Name it if you can !!!
"Over the years Christians have moved away ..." When did that happen tell that to the Jews that suffered in europe till WWII or to the whole world that suffered occupation and slavery till the sixties or to the Iraquis that lost over 100K civilians over lies supported by whom ???
If you see Muslims in the gulf countries only, while you lied about them too, open your eyes these are at most 20M over 1.2 B Muslims ...
I wonder what is your school of thaughts, but can you explain to me why it produces such blind extremist liers from when it began !!!

The Koran, like the Bible speaks with different voices. Like the Bible, sometimes it speaks with a warlike voice and at times with a peaceful voice. It is the duty of theologians to harmonize the different voices and come up with a consistent theology. Of course, different theologians come up with different theologies, depending on the weight that they give various parts of the Koran or Bible.
The central person of the Bible is Jesus Christ. The central person of the Koran is Mohamed. A very important factor in developing the theologies of the Bible and of the Koran is the character and example of the founder.
Following the example of Jesus, his followers generally interpret the Bible to teach that the way to do the work of God is to suffer and die for the right. Following the example of Mohamed, his followers have a tendency to interpret the Koran as teaching that they should fight with the sword to bring the righteousness of God.
It should be noted that many or most followers of Islam do not interpret the Koran to mean that they should attack infidels. But extremists do. We Christians have aggressive extremists among us as well but generally not as violent as Islamic extremists. In fact, Christian extremists often renounce violence altogether as the Mennonites do or as the followers of Martin Luther King did in the pacifist protests of the '60's.

I'm sorry but you are the victim of "selective teaching" . Take the time to research fanaticism in the christian genre and you'll find that we, as a religon throughout the last century, are responsible for many more atrocities, intolerances and abuses than the entire history of the muslim faith. It's sad as hell but it's true.

It seems to attach oppression people. Often it is divided and interpreted in differnt ways. Islam is the second largest religion in the world. And Christianity is the most powerful and this has produced parts of islam to come in conflict with many beliefs thrust on them by christians. This conflict makes islam look 'extreme' because of our Christian (some say western) preception.

Look at the last question I posed. Look at the 3rd comment. This is the extremism utilized by today's so-called Christians.
You wanna see terrorism? Check out Jan & Paul, Jerry Falwell and others who perpetuate a hatred or pity for other faiths, instead of teaching that Allah (SWT) is judge if all. Is it not written that Jesus (SAW) himself said, "Judge not lest ye be judged"?
I don't see everyone generalizing about Christians based on the actions of a few.

Religious certainty combined with a mandate for evangelism can quickly lead to oppression and violence.
Unfortunately, Christians are equally violent in history, so blame goes many ways. Do your historic research.
