i need to find a way to get someones military background for the vietnam war 1967 is the year i think i am looking for, i also need to find out if they received any medals, and what type of discharge they had

You can contact the Department of Defense and request this information. However you better be able to prove that you want the information for historical documentation. Most of this information is private and can't be released to just anyone.

The national archives has information, but it is only available to the veteran or if the person is deceased their immediate family members. Try going here-

If you are helping him get a VA claim or something, all that stuff is listed on his DD214 which he should have. I know I am overstating the obvious, but just in case
