I have to go with Mike's Mission Machines response. Granted, depression is a mind thing, but it is also a body thing. Your serotonin is low and you have to get your body to make more of it. One of the ways to do it is physical activity. The intensity is up to you.

Walking a lot can get you started, but you need to do more. Go on line and find some simple stretching exercises and or do Yoga. Then get into weightlifting and cardio. Always, always check with your doctor before starting an exercise regimen. Now would be a great time to work on those arms and your abs.

Make sure you get to sleep before ten and wake by six, so you can get to deep sleep and have rem sleep also. Sleep in a darkened room that is slightly cool. This is when serotonin is manufactured in your body.

Proper nutrition helps a lot, too. Cut down on sweets and breads. Go for the proteins and veggies plus fruits. Cut way down on salts and fats. They make you sluggish.

Be with other people, even if it's just to go sit in the mall and watch people. Better yet, do your watching walking around at a brisk pace. Don't window shop, that can make you even more depressed if you can't afford what's in the window.

Check with your doctor he may want to prescribe mild mood elevators. Ask/tell him about these other activities. If you are reasonably healthy he should say it is safe.

If your depression is emotionally based (versus body, hormone based - body chemistry) you might want to look into counselling.

Here's hoping to better health. Good Luck. The hardest part is just getting started.

I have been suffering from post partum depression for the past one year when I gave birth to a baby boy. I couldn't stop thinking about how my husband loves him more than me and how things might be better if he wasn't born at all. Thus, I stayed away from him because I knew that I might do something I will regret for the rest of my life.

Almost instantly I went to a therapist and convince them that I need help. Among other things, I've tried herbal supplements and other book to treat depression but nothing works like the Depression Free Method. So now I'm proud to say I'm one of the happiest mother in the world. My husband loves us both very much and I thank the Lord for the blessing he gave us.

Depression Free Method?

There isn't a cure. The best treatment is different for every person with depression. Some need chemical treatment, while others need behavioral, therapy, or some combination thereof.

Finding faith is usually the best cure for depression. However it is really damn near impossible to find faith in God, when your to depressed to find faith in yourself.

Get out do stuff just for the sake of doing stuff. No reason not to. depression has a habit of making everything suck. Might as well at least feel depressed in different situations. To help fight the boredom that accompanies it.

Many good wishes to you my friend.

Mental depression has to do with the mind.
Mind creates thought energy, negative thoughts will surely make one depressed, try thinking peaceful, loveful things of yourself and others.

Do meditation, see yourself as being of light between your forehead, and that you are peace and love. Stay in this state for a few minutes a day. I promise this will remove all illness.

Involve yourself in helping someone else who is worse off than you are... Also, it may sound strange, but exercise is really great for dissipating depression and stress. Depression can't easily survive the rush of dopamine and adrenaline that brisk exercise promotes. Speed walking, biking, hiking, jogging are all great natural mood stabilizers and have the added advantage of being physically beneficial as well.

Hoping the best for you...

Depends on the reason for the depression. If it's a chemical imbalance, then a good doctor is the thing.

If it's situational depression, change the situation.

If it's simply the way you are, then try changing your thought patterns. It helps to find a good book to read about it.

Change your focus, change your perspective.

Focus on others, spend time volunteering with less fortunate - homeless, addicts, prostitutes, challenged - physically/mentally.

Find your passion in life - find something that you truly love to do that makes you want to be a better person helps you get there.

This will change your perspective on so many things and brighten your world.

Remember that the love you give out, will be returned 10 fold. But to get it, you got to give it.

God bless you and keep you safe :)

PS: Also, speak to your doctor find out if it's something that requires medication or if it's something that can be changed by what I stated above.

PPS: Remember, God loves you - always and forever - so much so, He gave His only Son to pay for our sins.

God cares about those who are sad or lowly in spirit. His Word can be such a comfort. Here are some Scriptures that may help:
" For he shall deliver the needy when he crieth; the poor also, and him that hath no helper." He shall spare the poor and needy, and shall save the souls of the needy." -- Psalms 72:12,13
2 Samuel 22:7 --"In my distress I called upon the LORD, and cried to my God: and he did hear my voice out of his temple, and my cry did enter into his ears."
Psalms 4:1: "Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness: thou hast enlarged me when I was in distress; have mercy upon me, and hear my prayer."
Isaiah 25:4 ---"For thou hast been a strength to the poor, a strength to the needy in his distress, a refuge from the storm, a shadow from the heat, when the blast of the terrible ones is as a storm against the wall."

Prayer and the right meds. This is nothing to joke about. Not all depression is related to physical symptoms or feeling sorry for yourself. Sometimes it's chemical imbalance.
