They don't make you feel that good -- because it's only temporary and then by contrast you feel even worse when you're not high. That's how the habit develops and often cycles into more serious drug abuse and addiction.
By staying off you feel better because you know that you have pride in yourself, and you respect your body. You can still have fun, all the drugs do is make you not care about what people think about you -- it's all in your head. Besides, when you impair your judgement to lower your inhibitions, you also lower your standards and often do things you that regret the next day.
It's about being yourself, and not letting anybody talk you into doing things that compromise your values or your future. What can be better than that!

You have to be really determined that you want to do it in order to cope with withdrawal. Once you are off it you have to try and stay away from people and things that will bring your mood down, wherever possible. If you are down then it is so tempting to use something to make you feel better or to numb it all, but then you feel bad because you`ve given in and that in turn makes you reach for it again. If staying off it is hard because they made you happy, then you have to find something to recreate that happiness, that adrenalin rush, something that makes you feel high without getting hammered. There is always a downer with drugs and drink, they create a temporary high, but imagine how cool it would be to do something amazing like parachuting! That high would be with you forever! That`s just an extreme example, even doing something to make you laugh is a natural high or you could try sports of some kind. Hope this helps! Good luck and be strong!

It's not the good feeling so much that is the addiction, but the substance in the drugs that makes us not able to quit. Take it from someone that has tried everything at least once. Even the good feelings are distorted as they are just a way to take a detour from reality. I left this earth when I was 15 or 16 years of age and when I was delivered from all my addictions 27 years later, it was like I took a trip back when I was 15 and had that freshness of being able to see things in a unobstructed way. You can stay sharp minded to make it through life's trials ,or you can blame life's trials for a reason to do drugs.

As I am facing that issue myself I can only tell you I feel what you are feeling. Only difference is I was told 3 months ago I had 5 years to live. I have been trying to stay as messed up as possible. For I see no way out. Guess what I may have missed my chance at a longer life due to my inability to refrain from a 30 year addiction to anything and everything. There are some new treatment options out there do some research. It helps me remember I want to live.
Anytime you need to talk im me.

It is very hard when u have nothing keeping u straight. If I were free to be me, I would be high. Having to give urine and hair follicle test every month or two, I stay clean. Not a good way to stay clean, u can do it, it just takes will power.

i had to leave the country bit extreme but it has helped me I'm going back in just under a month and never wanna go back to how i was. I'm not saying that I've given up for good just know i can live without them. it's been easier not being around anyone or anything to temp me into just doing it coz I'm bored and nothing better to do. i have learnt alot about myself so give it a try.

It is only a false sense of goodness you speak of and just think how poorly you feel without them after you have hac them but don't be discouraged after a whail of sobriety you will never regret leaving the drugs behind.

I gave up smoking at the same time as my brother, 6 months ago. When I asked him if he missed smoking, he said to me "Yes, but on average a craving lasts around 90 seconds, so I wait that long and the desire to smoke has passed."
I tried it out and it worked pretty well (I still don't smoke). It was only smoking though and nothing too hardcore.

if you have a habit of drinking & smoking than try to stay far away from those things. ask a friend to help or go on a diet. a friend of mine had the same kind of problem and i told her the same kind of advice so i helped her she took a diet and it worked fine. just think of it like this. if you gt drunk you could kill someone or yourself. if you smoke your heart and lungs get black and you're about to die soon. think of all the ways that you could die at such a young age just because you drink and smoke.
