OTCs DONT WORK!!

I went through toenail fungus for years. Tried lamisil and everything else. It just came back stronger than ever. Doc put me on the systemic (pill) lamisil, but I don't think I stayed on it long enough, because it came back after that too.

You can only get systemic Lamisil with a doc's prescription and it's hard on the liver.

Alternatives include colloidal silver 1 - 2 teaspoons a day and keeping your toes clean and apply tea tree oil after cleaning. Keep socks and shoes clean too. I've been doing this for a few months now and my toenails are almost back to normal. Check with me in a few months to see how I'm doing with it.

Uhhh... hammerhead... toenail fungus is not a bacterium, it is a fungus. Antibiotics only treat bacterial infections. Geez, if you don't know, go answer some trivia stuff.

The prescription meds work but can have nasty side effects. Try Vicks Vaporub. Buy new toenail clippers to use just on the toes with fungus so you don't spread it to other toes, and use them to trim the affected toenails very short. Run Vicks Vaporub on them twice a day. Cover with a bandaid or something so you don't stain your shoes. And you have to keep at it for a long time - maybe up to 6 months, twice a day, every day. But if I understand correctly, the prescription meds take just as long. The Vaporub might damage your shoes but it won't damage your liver! And if the dr. says it's NOT fungus after all, no harm done. Good luck!

I too am struggling with a toenail fungus on my right big toe. I am told there are no effective home remedies and that it is necessary to see a doctor. I did this and he told me that prescribed medications for this condition are potentially very harmful on the liver so..... nail fungus is the lesser of the evils. Try rubbing Vick's Vaporub. I have done so with limited results but didn't persevere...

Calm down. Fill a small tub with warm water, mix in about a cup of corn meal. Soak your feet in it for about 30 minutes. Corn meal is a powerful anti fungal and you will see results within 24 hours. Repeat as often as you need until it goes away. You can also sprinkle a little corn meal in your shoes every morning to help the process along. Good Luck.

If the fungus is not too deep in, you can use Tea Tree oil to wipe on your big toe nail. Tea Tree oil has antiseptic properties and can help get rid of it. However, if it is too far in, where the tea tree oil is unable to reach, you will need an oral prescription from your pharmacist.

A podiatrist could help you with this problem (foot doctor) they will take blood tests to see if your liver enzymes are normal (normal levels on website). Then when they have determined that they will prescribe Lamasil. You can't drink alcohol while on this medication because it tends to raise your liver enzymes. This can lead to chirrosis, where you turn yellow and your liver fails, in extreme cases. But after the nail grows our (they can cut it off to let it grow out clean) you'll notice a wonderful new nail. glgl

first, id try bleach water... one cup of bleach to 10 cups of water (or one gallon) soak your feet for about 10 minutes a couple of times a day makin sure you wash them when youre done!!! If after a week or so there is no improvement... try an over the counter medication, there are alot to choose from. Then if that doesnt help in the time frame stated on the packaging, see a dr.
