PLease go to your local library and ask for the video tape called Magic 123. You will have to watch this video with your child. Do everything it says and you will have a great kid. I had to spank my daughter once and sent her to her room 3x in 10 yrs I have never yelled either. The tape works. Good luck

My 4 yr old is very head strong too so I know what you mean. Unfortunally the only thing that seems to work for her is putting her in her room in a time out. She does throw fits when put there but I just let her cry it out and eventually she does calm down and then we talk about it. She's come a long way since we started that. Good luck.

Start with telling the child to stop doing what he is doing. If he continues put him in the corner for about 3 minutes and tell him that if the misbehavior continues that you will spank him. If after two attempts to correct the problem he continues to do it, then pull his pants down, lay him over your lap, and give him about a dozen good, solid swats on his bare behind with your hand. Remember to hug him after and reassure him that you still love him.

IGNORE any behavior that is not harming himself or anyone else.
only address behaviors that is destructive. Time out.and time out means not talking to him or giving him any attention. Make time out short time periods. 10 to 15 minutes. unless he is still screaming. wait till the screaming stops before letting him out of time out. REWARD good behavior as often as possible!!!Be firm, let him know YOU are in control .
make sure he is getting enough rest and proper diet. If he does not nap during the day, make sure he at least stays quiet and still for 20 to 30 minutes each day. watch out for food colorings in food and drinks and too much sugar.

Taking away a favorite toy or a privilege or putting them in time out works best.

Read "Raising Your Spirited Child" by Mary (I think) Kucinka. My child is also an extremely headstrong 3y.o. and that book helped me so much.

If they don't listen like cleaning up their room...what we did was take ALL my daughters toys out her room and made her earn them back one by one. Whenever she listened and did as told...she got to pick ONE toy to take back in the room...it was once every few days or when something big happened..not all day ever day!

Time outs. Just remind him or her that they're consequences to actions, and be firm about enforcing them.
