Any of the instuments listed below will do the trick. They all work on the same principal of "floating" a thermometer type bulb in liquid to determine the alcohol content.

A hydrometer will tell you sugar content or specific gravity, if you have a finished alcoholic beverage you would need to have a lab run an alcohol test for you. I work for a winery so I can do that on site with my home brew.
