It's really nice to do if the groomer doesn't own the shop. If the groomer is also the owner (ie, gets all the payment herself) it is complementary, but not so important. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. If the job is exceptional or the groomer did something special, such as getting my dog in at the last minute, etc., for sure.

I'm a professional groomer, and while groomers don't live off tips, it's just like your hairdresser- it is considered polite to tip the groomer. The amount depends on the size of the dog and the involvement of the groom- a Great Pyrenees owner should tip substantially more than a short-haired Chihuahua owner.

It's not really done, but I do it sometimes when my groomer has done 4-5 of my dogs and then 4-5 more the next day..Then I give her 20.00.. I have a lot of dogs and it gets very expensive for me to have it done. But my back cannot handle it, so if she does several of my dogs, not just 2 or 3 I tip her and say thank you.
PS: they get paid A LOT of money for what they do. When you pay a min. of 50.00 per dog for a cut, there isn't much room for a tip. They do not expect it, and when I give her a tip she acts uncomfortable and does not thank you!
Tipping for a human hair cut is also not expected. It is not the same as a waiter. And even then, you are not required to give a tip...
When my mother in law goes on a cruise, she spends more on tips than the whole trip, they EXPECT you to tip everyone..someone brings u a towel, you tip..sheesh

My groomer owns her shop and I tip her. She charges $35 to groom my mini schnauzer and I always give her an extra $5.
She does a great job, my dog loves her, and she always gives me the latest drop off time (usually 10:30 or 11am).

you really should tip your groomer, not much, just a buck or two, especially if you know your dog to be difficult with some aspect of grooming and not all groomers make as much as you think, I'm lucky to make 20 on a dog, at least half of what we make goes to the shop.

my stepmom owns her own grooming business. she does get tips from her customers on occasion...but she doesn't not expect them. most of the time it's people she has as clients forever and it's normally around the holidays. in a small town like ours, that's saying alot to have people who are friendly enough like that.
