A proper diet is important for a health coat, a product that my friend say would be good is a shed ender this is what i got from the site, sounds right for you( it cut down on the shed all over the furniture and over all shedding because it catches dead hair before it ends up on your couch. that and the regular bath should be great:
"Shed Ender is the professional de-shedding tool that removes shedding hair trapped in your pet's undercoat. The specially designed head grabs and removes the loose shedding hair, revealing your pet's shiny, healthy top coat. It will not cut the hair or hurt your pet. Now you'll remove shedding hair before it ends up all over your house, furniture and clothes. Your pets will love it and you'll be amazed to see how much hair was trapped in the coat."
It cost about $14.99 with $6.99 s+h and you get free gifts or something. Good luck

Cats shed for summer, you know, and it may be that. Of course, it could also be a nutritional problem, which your vet can help you with.
I'd recommend two things: gentle daily brushing, and weekly offerings of a hairball remedy such as Petromalt. This should ensure that Smokey doesn't develop an intestinal obstruction.

Is he otherwise healthy?
We had a cat named Smokey. We had to have him put to sleep in May. Anyway, that's what caught my attention.
We used to brush our cats. Cats tend to shed more during the summer. I know if they're stressed they'll shed. And when they're sick.

Brush him. Cats shed. It's just a fact of life. Unless he has bald patches, don't worry.

Brush him routinely. If he is shedding excessively it could be a sign of a medical problem.

He needs some fish oil too. A can of sardines (in oil not tomato sauce) twice a week would be nice.
