If the cashier thinks you look under the age of 25 years old, they are legally suppose to check your ID. If they know you are over that age and you look well over that age there shouldn't be any reason why they are checking it, I'd call store management and ask why if your the age of 70 and got ID'd for Ciggs or Alcohol.

surely i will't trust there must be a lot large difference between grocery shops and liquor shops. It thoroughly relies upon on the guy. some grocery shops although have a coverage that in case you're chatting with somebody else both activities want to exhibit identity's so as that must be extra of a deterrent (objective, cvs etc). I easily have also been to liquor shops although that card at the front so as that is a important grab bag. The extra respected the keep is (more suitable call) the added sturdy it's going to be to get in/by employing oftentimes. golf equipment on the different hand are an complete distinct tale...

Many people that have answered the question are basically correct when you get to a certain age over 21 you still have to verify but the question of an age like 70 yrs old...sometimes common sense can dictate what you should do, but from the government enforcement point of view well that can be a different point of view. Lets say say an individual has some rare disease that causes aging making a 19 yr old look like 70 yrs old you will obviously get stunned. That why government point of view tries to take in consideration of all scenarios.

I don't believe so, clerks need to check the ID's of people who "look" under the age of 27, at least that is the law in my state. I suppose a 70 year old getting carded would be quite flattered.

Most stores make a habit of checking the ids of anyone who appears to be under a certain age. In my area the usual number is 27. This way, they can be certain they are not selling to underage persons

The law in florida, is if they don't look 30, you must I.D. them.
Now, that is hard to enforce, because one can argue about how one looks. The law is just there to make people card more often.
Many companies may have a policy to card everyone, no matter what their age. That is still a rule for an employee, and they can lose their job for it.
It is also a law in Florida, that you must have your I.D. on you when you purchase alcohol, no matter your age.
Bottom line is, you should not get mad at someone for carding you, they are doing it because they have to.

They (stores) all have their different ages: 35, 30, 26 at the least and say "if you don't look this old we'll card you." My 56 year old father was carded. It's their prerogative: after all, they are hugely fined if they sell to a minor.
In Italy kids drink wine at dinner, and I think they have way less problems with alcoholism.

No, they're not legally required to. Store policies vary though, in order to reduce liability. The only thing that the clerk is legally required to do is to not sell tobacco or alcohol to persons not of legal age.

It depends on the policy of the store or corporation. Usually the rule of thumb is to check even if they seem to be as old as 35.

I believe the law is that if you look like you're under 27 years of age, they have to ask for ID.
