My boyfriend of seven years and fiance of one year has told me that he is going to break up with me when I go back to school, which is in less than two months. He wants us to carry on as we have been until then. He says that he needs to figure some things out about himself. He is a good man to me and I would sincerely like to marry him and have his children. What should I do? Should I keep acting happy knowing what is to come? Or should I leave now?

He might genuinely mean what he says about wanting to figure some stuff out. You have been together a long time for your age, so I am guessing neither of you has much dating experience apart from each other.

On the other hand, if he is about your age, it is odd that he does not know what he wants yet.

Regardless, I would definitely accelerate the ending of the relationship. If he misses you awfully, maybe he "figures things out" before you leave. If he doesn't, then you have 2 more months to recover BEFORE school starts. It ain't like you need that additional distraction as you start college.

Good luck.

Leave this selfish loser now! He's a creep with no thoughts of anyone but himself.

It will be hard, but you should enjoy the rest of your summer and use it to find friends and possibly a romantic interest who will treat you as you deserve. Why should you have to pretend to be happy?

Why would he want to keep everything the same until you go back to school? Is it because he doesn't want to look like an a** in front of your friends and family? He wants to keep the appearance of a perfect relationship? Or is it because he wants to keep a sure thing until you go away?

Leave him now and if family, friends, or anyone else asks, keep your head high and explain to them that your fiance informed you that he was going to break up with you once you left for school, you did not appreciate being treated as a Netflix rental that gets returned whenever HE felt like it and let him end it now.

I am so sorry that this happened to you but I know there is someone fantastic out there waiting for you. Be strong, good luck and God Bless.

After 8 years he doesn't know something about himself. I would suspect something is not right. Why should you put up with this knowing that he's going to leave you. Don't set yourself up for this.Talk to him and set things down on the table. It would seem that it's right thing to do. If he's really in love with you, he must see the light at the end of the tunnel. If not, then have you wasted these last years for nothing ? Good luck ... God bless.

what are the pros and the cons knowing that it is coming can lead you to be sad and angry now or you could wait till school starts when you need to be focused my advice would be to end it now that gives you time to heal before you need to worry about school and if you break up with him it will let you be more assertive in the relationship he will know that he is missing out good luck and it will be ok

why would you act "happy" if your not happy? When someone is being themself, they show all there emotions, they don't hide them..especially from someone they say, they love...be up front about what you feel and what you think....see what he says, then take it from there...
