Hey, how they manage to sell water for $1.50 a bottle (in some places $3.50), it wouldn't surprise me that they'd charge more. Water is found in nature. Carbonated water is not. It takes work, therefore it's more expensive.

that's no longer what's in mentos that is how mentos is formed. those chemists are keeping that the popular reason is actual, no longer chemical. Their clarification: nucleation web pages. once you've a liquid it extremely is supersaturated with gasoline (like soda, it extremely is pumped complete of carbon dioxide), a nucleation website is an section the position the gasoline is able to sort bubbles. Nucleation web pages ought to correctly be scratches on a floor or specks of airborne dirt and dust – everywhere that you've a intense floor section in an extremely small volume. that is the position bubbles can sort. Mentos look loaded with nucleation web pages. In different words, there are such multiple microscopic nooks and crannies on the floor of a Mento that an mind-blowing sort of bubbles will sort once you drop it in a bottle of soda. because the Mentos are also heavy adequate to sink, they react with the soda all the thanks to the bottom. The escaping bubbles instantly change right into a raging foam, and the stress builds dramatically. in the previous you recognize it, you've were given a large geyser taking position!

Simple, because it's a status symbol and we're willing to pay for it. Anything to make us feel better than the next guy who can't afford to pay for it.
Same water, different label.
I like the answer about the alcohol relationship also.

When I was a kid, Schwan's had a home sodapop making kit. It had syrup and carbonation and bottles and lids...it was really cool if you knew what you were doing...if ya messed it up though...whew! That stuff tasted like CRAP-O-LA! :)
