I live in rural Nova scotia now but have lived in Halifax and traveled lots. Although Halifax is a beautiful city with lots to do and see I find that most cities are a like and if you want to see things and do things leave the city's and travel the coast, see the little villages and towns and their unique tour spots. Its actually a very big province and by sticking to the city of Halifax you will miss out on a lot of wonderful things!

Yes, Halifax is the best place to stay, because the city boasts a whole range of accommodations, from beds and breakfasts, to historical inns to contemporary hotels. There's lots to do, too: the Farmer's Market on weekend mornings, strolling the waterfront, exploring old graveyards, or pub-hopping & listening to live music. And we give great festivals -- the Buskerfest, the Jazz Fest, and our famous Concerts on the Hill for Canada Day and Natal Day. And once you get tired of urban life, rent a car and hit the road for a day trip down scenic roads to places like Grand Pre, Peggy's Cove, or just to go exploring!

I've been to Halifax twice and thought it was a very nice place. There's lots to do and many sights. It's big enough to not be boring but not so large that it's impersonal. The people are amazingly friendly, Generally speaking, the people in all of Canada's maritime provinces are extremely friendly.
